So I've got a yamaha p115 recently, I wanted to record audio from it directly using my laptop but I don't really know how to do so. I've been searching on google, someone says that I need an AUX cable to record audio from the keyboard and some says I need an audio interface to do so. I've tried to connect my piano with my laptop with a usb cable using the "USB to host" port but it didn't work. I'm quite confused confused So exactly what cables do I need to connect my piano to the laptop and record audio? Also what software do you guys recommend me to use(it would be great if it's free grin)
Thanks!!!!!

With the USB cable, you will only record the key numbers you play and velocities, but not the sound.

If you want to record the sound, you will have to connect the AUX-OUT plugs (2 Jack 1/8") of your P-115 to your LINE-IN plug (2 stereo Jack 1/8") of the PC (its soundcard). With a desktop PC you may have a correct sound record, if not, you can buy an external card like the Behringer UCA202 or UCA222. (Note: the Behringer use RCA plug and needs other cable) You will need a software to record. Audacity is free and can do some editing (cutting the blank before the actual record, normalize...)
