In the light of recent profound developments mainly from Casio, but also Kawai, Yamaha need to make improvements to this, and related models. My highly optimistic forecast based on these changes, would be . .

GHS II, incorporating longer black keys.
Bosendorfer sample. Or U1.
Lighter weight (dunno why its so heavy now)
Stronger speaker system.
Line outs
Full midi connections
Less trashy music stand

Somebody might be looking in. .

They don't seem to be working too hard on improving their action. They have kept the same GHS/GH action forever. The added the let-off recently to some GH3 action, which is basically a nothing, is not what I would consider improvement.

I'm sure everything else, trashy music stand included would remain unchanged. If you were given the task to design the next DGX and keep it under US$200 cost to sell to stores at $400 which sell at $800 to customers, there is a limit on how much you could upgrade and keep the thing under $200.

They may change the color choices a bit, black, silver, and white this time, with faux wood sides. I think the DGX-650 already sound as good as it could at its price, so the next one is probably just a tweak, so it would sound a little different rather than better in order to sell more of basically the same thing. Their marketing department is so skilled at making up names to highlight all the nothing technology they didn't do to make it sound so special.

Note: Despite this silly commentary, I like Yamaha, and paid what amounts to a brand new Toyota Prius for their piano.

what Yamaha should do, is build a stage piano version or a module of Tyros 5 (with the piano room featuere and sounds of the CVP709) and offcourse the action of the cp4....

Or add styles to the upcomming replacement of the Motif range and MOXF

I think yore wize to spend more on a piano than a car. Both pianos and cars can be had at bargain prices these days if you like top end stuff. . .and dont buy new. Depreciation for both is high.

That is drool worthy. I gig every week with a borrowed PSR-950 (little bro of the Tyros 5), and I'm constantly amazed by the power in the Arranger keyboards. In my book, the state of the art keyboards are the Arrangers not the Workstations.

If you really wanted a DGX upgrade, I'd consider a any decent digital piano hooked up to one of those bad boys, (since they basically only have synth keys). A Kawai VPC 1 with a PSR/Tyros module would be absolutely insane!

For just sit and play, arrangers are perfect, yet a little to small for playing nice piano.. just combine that TOTL arranger with the best Stage piano and you have the best performance instrument.. (workstations have turned way to much turned in the direction of recording instead of performing)

And about the DGX650, the keybed is just unacceptable for anything serious. Its just to slow and does not feel like a piano action at all.

Bet you havent payed one. The keyboards ok, nothing more. But even top end digital keyboards do not improve my playing sad to say. They just feel a bit better.

And look a lot better!

The es7 is nice, thatd replace my dgx ok I reckon. The Roland has a reasonable action but I didnt gel with the sound even with earphones. CN 35 is a likely choice and the price is good, the pedals too, feel right.

I deffinately played one

The keybed is not okay... Try hitting the same note very quickly, you will notice that you will miss some notes due to how the keybed works... This will probably not be an issue for most people as they will probably almost never play that fast... But on the more expensive keybeds this is not an issue..

And yes, i tried it in a comparrison to many other keybeds, and i found it the worst action around, less fluent and not really commected to the notes...its Yamahas low end and it deffinately feels low end.

And yes this is a personall opinion. But i cant stand it when people call me a liar, and i really think you own me an appology for that....
