This seems to be the closest forum to ask this.

I see various performances of Liberace playing the Moonlight 1st mvt. Don't find any video or listing of a recording of him doing the 3rd. Anyone ever hear him do it? Do you think he had the chops to a credible job?

He certainly had the chops and was classically trained. He may have never played it after he became Liberace because he only played classical "super hits" at that point.

I heard to several of his concerts on PBS and the Internet he was definitely talented and could perhaps play it if he focused on it.
Bit usually he concentrates on the ones that are popular like loverus mentioned and also pieces that could easily transpose to another or to a readily accessible beat of a pop hit. So basically he goes w the flow of the move of the concert (at least the few I watched) 3rd movement would be too fast and it'll break the general moods his concerts are in. I'm sure at home he could whip it out. I'd definitely would be interested in seeing what he plays at home. He is an artist who put in a lot of time into his craft and has a lot of passion. That I can definitely respect. We need more of those than those who cut people down for some reason.

I do get the humor in your statement, though. smile

Say what you will about his sequined character, but millions of boys and girls (and adults!) took up the piano because of Liberace. Buying pianos, paying piano teachers, and exploring classical music. There are far worse things in this world!

Like Victor Borge? grin

Actually, he (and Lurch from The Addams Family) was my first introduction to classical piano music - Borge sent up Rach's Op.3/2 (in the 2-piano version), and I'd never heard music like that before. I was about seven, and living in an obscure country then - no classical music other than in imported comedy shows (mostly from USA) on TV.

BTW, if you're wondering what Lurch played, it was Mozart's K545 - on a harpsichord.

Priceless! thumb

I never knew it's possible to play Op.53 (morphing into La Paloma) on a harpsichord.....

Probably some of the kids who benefited from his scholarships.

The staff at the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts is pleased to provide the following report of all scholarships and grants disbursed by the Foundation from 1981 to 2011. The results were astounding.

Total grants and scholarships of nearly $6 million, to over 2600 students, at 108 schools (see below). Additional funds remain, in endowment funds created at certain universities, requiring more investigation.
