My daughters piano teacher informed us our current keyboard was insufficient for her, that she needed something more like a real piano. I managed to pick up a CVP-85A on craigslist for free as it does not work. It powers on, but makes no noise. I tried the headphones, nothing. I tried the audio out, nothing. I tried to perform a factory reset by holding down B1 while powering on and it didn't seem to do anything. I also tried holding down the far right key while powering on, and it also didn't seem to do anything.
I can't check local control, as all the buttons appear non-responsive. For the same reason, I can't test other sounds, because I can't get it off of piano. There are 4 glass fuses and none have burned through.

I have a base knowledge of electronics, and do have the service manual for this piano. I am hoping someone here can give me some guidance here on next steps I can take for getting it repaired. We do not have the money for a new keyboard and this is our best hope. I'm sure I can't get a replacement board for a keyboard this old, and likely can't afford it anyway.

Thank you!

If it sends out MIDI signals, maybe a VST would be would be the easiest solution. (VST = software piano that runs on your computer so your computer would generate the piano sounds.)

That's a 22-year-old piano. There's little chance of finding replacements for the unique electronic parts.

But ... you didn't say whether the unit powers up. Does the display light up?

If it powers up, try re-seating all internal connectors, ribbon cables etc. and check for any blown capacitors.

Thank you. Yes, it does power up, at least the lights and display come on. But, all keys and buttons are non-responsive.

I'll re-seat all the connectors and check the capacitors this weekend.

I'd try the midi too. I find it pretty unlikely you could fix it, your best bet is the midi is unaffected and just use that.
