I bought a Yamaha M-500-QA today from the local piano store. It is in beautiful condition, and it has a wonderfully rich sound. The serial no. is 201636. Can someone please tell me what year the piano was built? Thank you.

If I read the numbers right on the Yamaha website Troy posted (and I've used that site many times), it looks like a 1963 model, without any other identifying letters in the serial #.

It could still be a nice piano, but I would not have paid a high price for it... Yamaha name or not.

However, congratulations on your new-to-you piano, and enjoy!!! smile

We have a 2001 M-500. Wonderful instrument for the price.

Rick, I was thinking the M500 was made in Thomaston which would put it being built in 1995. OP, does the serial number have a "T" at the beginning?

Yes, 1963 just doesn't sound right... I'm assuming there are other letters that are part of the serial #, but I don't know for sure.

And, you know what they say about assuming. smile
