Hi! I am looking to upgrade our piano. My daughter has been taking lessons for 2 years and is hooked. I just started lessons (old lady that I am!) and have really enjoyed learning to play. We have an old clunker that needs to be upgraded. I was offered a one-owner, gently used 1999 Pearl River UP 108 for $1000 (although I suspect there's a little wiggle room). Would this be a good "next step" piano for my daughter and I? I appreciate your imput!!

Whether it would be a good "next step" piano depends on the condition of your clunker! The Pearl River was (in 1999) and still is considered an economy "entry level" piano. If the UP-108 (PR's smallest model) has indeed been lightly used and well maintained over the years it might be "OK" - but that's about it. The $1,000 asking price - with wiggle room - seems fair, however. It would be worth spending $100 to have a piano tech check it over for you first. The same would apply to the Baldwin 646 you are considering.

Sounds like a great price on a very decent piano.

I recommend a used Yamaha, Kawai, or Baldwin studio (not console). Your child will quickly outgrow an entry level UP 108..
