Yesterday, I looked at a Yamaha P22 at a house where the owner was selling it. According to the Serial# (and some researching on the Yamaha site), it was made in Georgia in late 1992-1993. The man bought it for his two sons in 1994, but his sons have since gone away to college (however when they were still at home one of them played it regularly). As the man is just retired and moving out of town, he is selling this piano for $2000.
Does anyone have any opinions on P22s in general? Is $2000 a good price for one?
It isn't a glamorous-looking piano in the least (this one is a rather bland walnut color), especially when compared to some of the sleeker black Yamaha models I've looked at before (U1, U3, MPX...etc.), but the tone is very sweet (at least to my ears), the action is quite light, and the piano isn't too loud (something I am looking for as I live in the crowded city of San Francisco).
The man told me the piano hadn't been tuned in 3 years, and when I played it it was still reasonably in tune, so I am assuming it holds its tune fairly well. There was no damage to the case or inside, and the original warranty and papers were all still available, in their plastic pouches.
Any feedback appreciated!
