Hi

new to this,

I want to get a digital piano with weighted keys for around €1000-1300, to be used for infrequent gigging.

I've looked at a few like yamaha P115 and casino px150 and roland ones i cannot decide!! please help?!?:)

needs to be weighted keys
i like having access to realistic sounds like choirs, strings and organ
i would like one that can be hooked up to a computer for sounds/recording,

Can you genius's out there please recommend a few products that are definitely value for money and that have the above requirements,

any help really appreciated,
thanks so much!! wink

You need to look at the DGX 650 too. Excellent value, has all the instruments, funky sounds too and is easy to record. Tjheres a lot in there and suitable for infrequent gigging. Are you strong? smile Because it aint light!

All good suggestions, and you will want to go and test of them. I also would want to add the Casio PX-5S. The 560 seems to be pretty good, but for live gigging, I think you'll find the 5S much more suitable.

Some of the suggestions mentioned here do not have "realistic sounds like choirs, strings and organ".

Hi, from that list Kawai MP7... best sounds (ALL SOUNDS) and key action, only ES8 has a slightly better key action.

mcguiks, welcome to the forum.

If you're lucky, you may be able to find a second hand Nord Electro 3HP.

The board itself is very light and portable, and while the action is not the greatest, it is at least weighted. The Nord has some excellent piano and EP sounds, good tonewheel organ+rotary speaker simulation, and there are lots of freely available choir, strings sounds to download from the Nord website and elsewhere online.

Cheers,
James

thanks so much for all the advice, but ive pretty much decided that because its the first board im buying im not going all out on a board with huge functionality that i wont use straight away, so ive compaired alot of the above but i seem to favour one thats not mentioned the Yamaha P115. it has a good piano tone and the controller app seems cool. there is line out for live gigging and built in speakers for home which i love too, its more reasonable on price too. HOWEVER where the P115 seems to fall down is the lack of recording and lack of tones - if i could get more tones/beats through the board and or more recording functions i am definately going to buy it,.so TO SUM UP:

DOES ANYONE KNOW..will the USB midi connection on the P115 give me the opportunity to get more tones/beats through the machine Via some kind of software??

The USB-to-computer connection lets you hit keys on the P115, and feed the MIDI information (pitch and "velocity") to a software synth running on the computer.

"Software synth" can include a piano simulator (Pianoteq, or many "sample-based" programs), Rhodes/Wurlitzer simulator, analog-synth simulator, etc, etc, etc. Most of those programs include recording capabilities.

You can get any sound you want, that way.

Audio output will come from the PC. You'll need either a "Line In" jack on the P115 (I don't know if it has one), or headphones, or outboard amp/speaker, to hear it.

I heard a P105 (the predecessor to the P115) yesterday, playing its Rhodes sound through a high-quality PA system. It sounded great.
