What you hang on your wall demonstrate your education, I tried to give a different, educated, perspective, you are free to don't listen. I just waved a flag showing that there are real masterpieces that can represent the theme of music without going to the "obvious."

Again, it's also depends on your circle of friends, if they have no idea who Renoir was, maybe you better stick with the portrait of Chopin.

Buzzzzzzzzzz. MASSIVE FAIL... Go back to school and learn how to play with others, little boy.

Somewhere I have a book that has a picture of a very young John Thompson (yes, that John Thompson) when he had crazy Lang Lang hair. I've thought of scanning it and putting it up near the piano, which is about the same vintage as the picture.

de gustibus non est disputandum

You are of course, entitled to your own opinion and your own taste - but to imply that those who disagree with you (and their friends) are somehow uneducated people who are lesser beings than you are, is pretty insulting, and as you can see, not greatly appreciated or tolerated by the members.

As was said above - learn how to play nicely with others. Sometimes that means something as simple as not pushing your point so aggressively.

Not known for my false modesty, in my 'music room' (a.k.a. my tiny living room & adjacent kitchen), I have a picture of, er, myself:

When I'm struggling with a particularly intractable passage in Scarbo on the piano, I look at the picture of my craggy features, and immediately resolve to practice harder........ thumb

Id have modern art picture, Avant Garde style. And if it cost too much, Id paint the bloody thing myself. . .at the moment, I got a band rehearsal piccie which I did nearly 50 years ago. Before digital pianos were thought of. Or digital anythings. But not before breathalysers. Officer. . .

You never fail to make me smile, Peter. Thank you! smile

Plodding through piano music at a frustratingly slow pace since 9/2012.

Standard disclaimer: I teach many things. Piano is not one of them.

I ended up with 5 which should be about right. I let the person doing them choose for me. I think it is a good selection.

Hi Philip:

Your choice of pictures for your piano room is absolutely perfect-- but I do see your input in the selection... who else would choose Rowlf the Dog with a candelabra ?? I wouldn't have thought or it, but it is GREAT!

He did 120 TV appearances and several movies. Of the 5, he is probably the most likely to be recognised by most people.

I think the addition of Rolf is perfect-- not only for Rolf's contributions but also the whimsy of it--- would make me smile every time I saw him on the wall among the OTHER greats--

Confess: you weren't the one to think of him? I would be so disappointed if the answer is "No"

Love these Phillip. Are these illustrations/pictures from old printed materials? I have some pictures that I had framed from a civil war era Harper's Bazaar (not piano themed, unfortunately). Your pictures remind me of them.
