Hello,

A few weeks ago, I was deciding which piano would fit my needs. I tested out the CN25, CA17, and the CA67. I didn't like the touch of the CN25, because, for me, it felt a bit "spongy" and cheap. Keep in mind, this is my opinion and I am a beginner. I loved the heavy touch of the CA17! It has the RM3II action, like the VPC1. The CA67's touch/feel (GF2) was almost the same as the ca17's, but it felt lighter at the top of the keys.

Some time after, I ordered my piano and got it literally the day after ordering! I was really, really excited!

My piano is all set-up in my room now and I love it!!!

But however... two keys are too far apart from each oter and maybe the pedals have a problem...
The pedals only work when I press them down for 50%, so half-pedaling is considered precision work for me. Is this normal?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I don't know how to post a pic.

Hi, try a CN24, maybe you like this action more than the CN25 for less money...

Did you buy from Oostendorp in Wezep? And did you buy it in black or Rosewood? You can post your picture on another website and then post the link here.

Hello Aleksandre, congrats on the purchase of your new piano!

Yes, this is a fair assessment. The longer keys and key pivot of GF/GF2 does reduce lighten the touch when playing towards the back of the keyboard.

It's not uncommon to see some minor spacing variations between keys on wooden key actions, partly due to the way the keys 'sit' freely on top of balance pics (like an acoustic piano), rather than 'snapping' into a fixed position (like most digital pianos). However, if this is a concern for you, it may be worthwhile seeking advice from your dealer.

I believe the CA17's Grand Feel pedal system is capable of sending a range of values before reaching the half-way point (this can probably be verified by using a MIDI monitor such as the one built into Pianoteq), however I'm afraid I do not know to what extent the CA17's sound is influenced up to the half-way point. The higher specification CA instrument do allow this behaviour to be adjusted using the 'Half Pedal Point' Virtual Technician parameter, however this is not available on the CA17. I will try to confirm the situation and update you at a later date.

Kind regards,
James

Hello,

I bought the piano at Kick Music, a small shop in Hilversum for €1800,- + a chair. I could've got a better deal at ProsQ Music, but Kick Music delivered it one day.... I have no patience..

Here's a picture:

Thank you for your reply, James! It's a relief smile

Hi, nice piece: looks indeed pretty similar to my ca63.

Don't worry about the distant keys, i have that too on my piano, as james says, it is somehow related to how the keys naturally "fall" in place", it doesn't disturb me while playing, and even looks more real piano like.

Like what you've done with the lamp and the picture frames. Make it more like a piece of furniture..

I don't think it's for lack of importers... the official Kawai US site show the CA97 and CA67 as the only two Concert Artist pianos. It appears Kawai has made a decision not to supply the CA17 to the US market.

Which I find to be sad... it's an excellent action; for those using headphones, or wanting an excellent RM3 three-sensor action, but not interested in a premium amplification system, it would be a great option.

I personally like the CA17's minimalistic approach ("good action, good sound...and that's it"), however for various reasons Kawai America has opted not to introduce this model (nor any of predecessors) into the North American market.

Ultimately, I respect their decision, as the folks over there are best placed to judge the needs of their customers.

Kind regards,
James
