Hello,
i am planning to start my journey in learning piano as an adult beginner. I decided to buy a digital piano and thankfully i read lots of stuff inside the forum which light my way smile But still i can't decide which one is better for me. I searched yamaha arius series (YDP142/162), Roland RP301 and Kawai KDP90 - CN25. i like both kawai pianos the most among them but i stuck between KDP90 and CN25. Actually, KDP90 is more suitable for my budget but i want to buy a piano that i can use in long term. i can buy KDP90 for 900$ and CN25 for 1200$. i know there are many points that CN25 is superior than KDP90. Before deciding one of them, i wonder your suggestions.

Thanks for your help..

Maybe you should look at kawai cn 35. It is a superior model than kdp90 and cn25, but for some reason I dont know is listed at a price between them,at least that is the case un thomann. Weird, but good opportunity.

I would test drive as many models as possible before I make a purchase.

Now to be honest, I have purchased stage pianos without first playing them but they tend to be top of the line stage models and I know in advance the action will be excellent.

Keyboards in the price range you're considering should be auditioned. Are there any music stores near you?

Hahaha, what? Then I looked on Thomann and indeed the CN35 SB is below 1200 EUR. Amazing!

For the original question: KDP90 vs CN25 there is the question how much $300 means to you. The CN25 certainly is better than the KDP90, but for sure the KDP90 is good enough to start. Depending on how fast you progress I doubt that you will outgrow the CN25 in less than five years.

An other 2-300 up (usually, see above) is the CN35 with better speakers and USB stick recording. So it is really hard to stay within budget...

Kawai CN35. Daughter wanted a piano, so we got one. Now who'll learn faster? ;-)

I'm just trying to give good advice. Normally I would have said, be sure to have your teacher involved in this process ... and have you thought of renting (until you know what you like and dislike). smile

Actually you may want to start off a bit in the lower end of the keyboard range until you're sure you will stick with it. Not to jinx you but a lot of good intentions fall by the wayside when you start something new. As long as it has 88 weighted keys and works just about anything is good enough to get started including used instruments. That way if you decide piano is not for you later on you're not out much money. Here a Kawaii ES100 is running $800 USD, and the Yamaha P115 is $600 USD. There are also other "starter" instruments in the $400 to $500 range. Good luck!

Kawai ES8
Yamaha P105
Yamaha YPT220

A lack of talent does not stop you from learning piano. It just takes longer and you have to work harder.

Hi, I prefer Kawai too, i suggest you go for CN25, or for a limit budget, go for ES100; this portable digital piano IMHO has best key action under $1500. Other similar options to ES100 could be Yamaha P255, Roland F-140R and Casio PX160, their key actions are at the same ES100 quality level, but Kawai key actions are more rugged, reliable and silent (quieter), in my opinion. Have a nice day!...
