There was a mysterious post in here a little while ago about this.

Both sound very good to me, but I think I prefer the Nord a little.

The aggressive Dexibel Rhodes has a very good tone, but it also sounds like it might lack expression? (softly played notes still had a rather aggressive tone, to my ears) Hard to tell from a demo of course.

Greg.

There is a suggestion or rumor that this company was started by people who used to work for Roland Italy which was closed. The 73key is light weight like a Casio - 22lbs. They appear to be running the audio engine at 24bit/48k and using a combination of samples and modeling to get realistic expression/articulation which also allows for "unlimited polyphony" which is saying something if true. Nord Piano 3 has a horrendous spec in this regard (40 stereo, 60 mono polyphony) and most other developers are only offering 256 note poly at most at the moment.

I gather the company is headed by ex-Roland employees.

I've yet to play the instruments, however from what I have read, watched, and heard online, they are a very promising debut.

Cheers,
James

There are some old friends from the Roland Days, that I saw on the NAMM booth involved with Dexibell.
It was very good to see them again after a few years.

I liked the products. Good sound, good design. Good Action.

The Demonstrator on the booth (Ralf Schink) was a former Roland Demo guy in Europe.

All good friends and happy to see them succeeding.

I remember General Music. There was a guy locally who bought the only General Music DP I ever saw around my area. It was an 88 key "slab" type of DP, rather than a console. It had a group of three pedals like a "real" acoustic that plugged in, like some of the better slabs have today. This was sometime in the early or mid 90s. Was it called the GEM2 or something along those lines? Anyway, what impressed me about it was that it seemed more "real" than ANYTHING else electronic-based that I had ever seen, even compared to what Kurzweil had (which were being touted as the best available). When he played it, you could hear nuances in the sound that nobody else had (of course, the guy really could play...). I lost touch with the guy, since I knew him at a particular job/company, but I have often wondered if he still has that DP, and how does it compare to today's top offerings.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread (sorry!). But I loved my GEM3 I think it was. For the time, it really could do some nice stuff. Of course, even low-budget new stuff these days can far surpass it. But if they kept going, who knows?

I have some fond memories of playing GEM workstations during my youth. Of course, it's easy to look back on these things with rose-tinted glasses, but those instruments (along with the Technics KN keyboards) seemed well ahead of the competition at the time.

Cheers,
James
