What is an appropriate asking price for a Yamaha U1 Serial No. R3403266? From my research it appears it was built in 1981 in Japan. It has been tuned regularly, treated with care, and is in excellent condition.

Private seller or retail sale?
Gray market or US market product?
Is there a warranty?
All original or had parts repaired/replaced?
Where do you live?
When was the piano last serviced?

Private seller.
Not sure about market-built in Japan in 1981 or 1982.
Not sure about warranty.
All original parts.
Houston, TX
Not sure about last service. I had it tuned on 2011,
But it has been at friend's daughter's house since then.
Piano has been treated with care and is in very good to excellent condition.

It was built for the US market. There would be no warranty from a private seller. I have no idea what your local market would be, so I cannot suggest a price.

Hi Marie,

If it hasn't been tuned in 5 years, it automatically isn't in "excellent condition". That's sort of like saying a car is in excellent condition, but you haven't changed the oil in 5 years...

However, that problem is easily correctable. Honestly, I'd have it tuned anyway, so you can add that to your "for sale" listing. Serious buyers care about that.

I just used the Piano Buyer Classifieds search tool to list all the used Yamaha verticals of that size. Here's what was returned:

Also, there are classified ads on Piano World; I'm not sure if there are any U1 listings at this moment.

Hope this helps.
