With an entry level Yamaha Clavinova, do you know a setup with external speaker(and amplifier) system that can produce better (and louder) sound than the build-in internal speaker?
The room is about 30' by 40'.
Thanks

You can get a ton of answers on this, so lets start rounding it down and start with your budget. What are you looking to spend?

One possibility, off-the-cuff, within $1000 budget:
1) Yamaha Stagepas 400i PA system (with amp and mixer included), with stands for the speakers.
They should be loud enough to reach "live piano" levels, and they sound pretty good. The 600i is louder, and sounds as good.
Your DP probably has stereo sound. That can be tricky to put through a PA system. It's not as simple as:
. . . "left channel to left speaker, right channel to right speaker".
The mixer included with the Stagepas might help solve that problem.

Thank you Charles for the suggestions. PA systems will deliver much louder volume, but how is the sound quality for piano? How do they compare to the build-in speaker?

For less than a grand you can even get the StagePas 600i. It has a bigger woofer an d more power. Most times you can get this bundled with stands or from a online retailer offering coupons. I have a StagePas 600i with my Kawai MP7. It sounds great and is plenty loud enough. the 600i has a bigger woofer, phantom power for mics and more wattage. It is a little bigger than the 400i. I had a 300 StagePas for years and really enjoyed it. it will do the trick.
As to your question of sound quality, it is very good to my ears.

Is this going to be for gigs or just home use? If it is just for home you might try a home stereo amp and speakers then run the piano output to the Auxiliary input of the amp. I do that with my computer so I think it will work with a piano.
Kawai ES8 Yamaha P105 Yamaha YPT220 A lack of talent does not stop you from learning piano. It just takes longer and you have to work harder.

The sound will be way better than the built-in speakers.

With this budget would you consider selling your clavinova and simply either buying a superior model, or getting a stage piano plus speakers? 1k is a lot of money.

Finfan, the piano is occasionally used by a Church fellowship group, to accompany singing, some time, it was just no loud enough.
alerique, I don't think the old Clavinova + 1K can trade a much better DP, or a DP that is loud enough :-(
FrankDaddy and Charles, thanks for commenting on the sound quality.

Understood. In this situation you are clearly more concerned with loudness then the sound quality, just buy any system from a reputable brand that is loud enough for your purpose?
