Hi All,

I'm a teacher in the SF Bay Area (Oakland) and am looking for a home venue to have a recital in. Do you know if there are such things?

I much prefer homes or "warm" environments rather than churches, retirement homes and such.

Here's what seems like a nice space in Oakland:

Description: "This is a professional creative training space, perfect for fitness/wellness workshops, photo shoots, meetings, castings, and social gatherings for up to 40 guests. $250 is generally for 8 hrs there is currently not an overnight option unfortunately."

Holds up to 40 people.

It's a loft, but the site had 42 other locations, including homes.

I found it on this site: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3861719?checkin=03%2F04%2F2016&checkout=03%2F05%2F2016&guests=12&s=3uAhQd-T

There are several other sites with similar offerings that I found by searching for: "Vacation Homes, Oakland."

Of course, you may want to look for a space which already has a piano, I only looked at this one.

Good luck.

It's a nice idea. I've been holding recitals in a 19th century farmhouse in downtown Toronto which is home to an art league. It has a good-sized living room with an ok grand piano.

Try art leagues, women's clubs, lecture societies, and any of those vestiges of the cultural past. A B & B might also fit the bill. Obviously you need a home that has a decent piano, because the cost of renting one would be too much.

You might also consider having the recital in the home of a student.

Santa Fe Crossing in Berkeley https://www.facebook.com/SantaFeXing/ is a small arts studio with a beautiful grand piano. With the grand piano in place, it seats about 40 in the audience. It is not a home, but it does have a cozy casual atmosphere to it, and is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

When my kids had their recital there, the piano was well tuned and sounded great. There's a little kitchen at the back for a small reception. They don't advertise themselves very well, so you won't find a whole lot of information on their website, which seems to be limited to that facebook page.
