I am looking for easy to use, fairly inexpensive software to hook up to my Clavinova so when I play, it will transcribe the notes. I used a program previously (can't remember the name) that was too sensitive. What came out looked like Gershwin on steroids with a little Hendrix mixed in. Simple songs had ties carrying over into the next measure, rests inappropriately placed, etc. It took me longer to FIX everything than if I had typed in one note at a time !!

Any suggestions?

You need to set the quantization settings as such that it won't be too sensitive. Otherwise regardless of the software you use, you'll always have the same problem.

Nikolas is correct.

Also, you must be extremely conscientious of how long you hold notes as well as your rhythm. I use Sibelius to compose my scores, and while it has a decent method of notating music I play on the spot, I must be meticulous about the beat and the duration of notes. Meaning I cannot express any rubato or too much legato or else the result comes out very messy with many things to fix. This makes the idea of notating an improvisation pointless and it is ultimately faster to just input notes manually in the correct fashion.

Anyways, other than Sibelius, I've used program called ScoreCloud which I believe is free to use and you can use it to notate music on the spot through MIDI. It is much less picky than professional programs, so the results are usually cleaner because it has less potential to mess things up since it lacks complex features. However, I still find it is faster and less painful to just notate manually.
