I have a Yamaha G2 in Black. What do I clean it with? I was told to use car wax...

I have not tried this, and I am wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions?

Car wax ? not sure about this but I usually put car wax after I cleaned my car.

The movers that delivered my piano recommended Meguires Car Wax...

Hi Geturbuzzon,

I second Derick's suggestion. Also, use a cotton cloth lightly dampened with a little vinagar water (1 t-spoon vinagar and 1 cup warm water or equivalent) to clean the surface and then use the piano polish.

I don't know about using car wax on my piano - I've never tried that. However, I do use * this product * to clean my piano and it works beautifully. You may want to try this to ensure your piano is clean and completely dust free before applying the wax.

I clean the piano first with the general purpose cloth wet, then dry and polish using the glass polishing cloth. Dramatic results with no soap or cleaner of any kind.

Concurring with Starting Over, I found that high-gloss polyester responds well to being cleaned like glass.
This is true not only with respect to the cloth, but also to the detergent.
However, I strongly suspect that Vetril does not exist outside Italy, so I cannot make an internationally valid recommendation.

I admit I've never perceived a need to polish the piano.
Anyway dusting, cleaning and polishing seem three distinct activities to me.

We use Windex and micro fibre cloths. We sell all kinds of pricey "piano polish."

Windex will cloud up the finish over time. A lightly dampened cloth should be sufficient for dusting fingerprints and the like.

I like the Meguires. I'm interested in trying it out side-by-side with their piano polish, just to see what differences I notice.

I have a high gloss piano, and my technician advised me to just use a slightly dampened microfiber cloth,and nothing else. My piano is now 20 years old, and the finish is still perfect. gaby tu

What about satin poly finishes? Microfibre and water still?

1 tb of white vinegar added to 1 cup of warm water. Works very well on satin poly finishes as well as polished.

I use a microfibre cloth to clean the soundboard. I move it around by sticking a plastic ruler in between the strings.

This will bring back the "glow" and remove any fine-scratches caused by sheet music/books.

The Opulent Preservation Spray (16oz) $16.99 is a slightly faster and slightly easier way to remove fingerprints. (You still need to let this "haze" and wipe off the residue.) Unless fingerprints are a frequent problem, I'd just get the Luminescent Finish Clarifier and the cloth.

I apologize to Cory, but I think their piano cleaning products are beyond useless.

TO EVERYONE: PLEASE note that you must NEVER wash microfiber cloths with the rest of your laundry. It will destroy the fibers. ALSO, NEVER use fabric softener with microfiber. [/b]

I know that I have read Derick's care in many threads, but until I OWNED a new piano, it didn't click as to what to do.

Have I polished yet? Nope. I want to see one done with whatever product first.

But I do dare to try a little vinegar and dry/damp microcloth, since I did see Avery's tech use it.

Guess I just need to 'see' things for comfort, aah?

Yes, in fact the product description says lacquer and I missed that. I used it on my poly piano and it worked great. I'm interested in hearing how it does on lacquer.

Vinegar and water is fine for removing fingerprints, but it won't remove fine scratches. As I said in another thread, the Fender's product removed a "blemish" I had in on the back of my fallboard that NOTHING else could.

Note: Once you start using a polishing product, vinegar/water will remove that product. You will notice a huge difference in the reflectivity. Wax/polish changes (i.e.enhances) the optics for greater relectivity.

Nice 'shiny' piano Derick, but alas, mine is satin and lacquered besides!

I will only be trying the vinegar/water to help remove/collect DUST. Otherwise I seem to be just moving it around to one side or the other.

Good to know though, that vinegar might be removing the product. Old antiques dealer here (well not that old) used vinegar to clean lots of things.

I agree...a book would be nice!

mdsdurango, none of my info is original - it's all "stolen" from real experts!!! But I only report on stuff I have personally tried.

Zaino is amazing stuff. But a huge PITA!!! Even with the Z6??? (the stuff that speeds up the dry time). I did have the patience to use Zaino on my car and the results were nothing short of amazing, but I don't have the patience to use it on the piano. Not sure why that is. I'm also not sure what, if any, the long term effects would be from Zaino as it does "build up" over time - a good thing for cars, but I'm not sure about pianos.

The gnats are almost gone! I did some of what you said, but not all - I'm sorry. But you gave me some good ideas.

I did put the sand on top of the soil, and I did buy the cinnamon sticks - they definitely did NOT like them. Then everyday I put out a dish with a slightly damp paper towel that I sprinkled sugar on. They came and sat on that paper towel for hours. So everynight (they'd go to their gnat house) and I'd pick up the paper towel and flush it. I assume they were laying their eggs on the paper towel.

I still see a gnat every once in a great while, but I'm also still putting out sugary paper towels and flushing them each day.

Yea Derick...if my M&H was gloss finish, I don't think I would use Zaino...but for cars ... it's the best!!!
