Hi all,

I have been lurking around here for a few weeks and have picked up plenty of useful information as we have been looking for a new digital piano, thank you.

We have just bought a Roland HPi-50e because we liked the action, sound and because of the interactive feature that we think will be useful for us. My eldest daughter (8) has ben playing for about a year (doing ABRSM Grade 1 this summer) and my younger daughter (5) has also been showing interest. My wife and I would also like to learn to play a bit having both had (and forgotten)some lessons as children.

Until now we have had a Yamaha Piaggero NP11 which has been ok to start, but we needed to upgrade to something with a better action; hence the Roland.

I would like to use midi files with Digiscore on the HPi-50e to add some of the pieces my daughter is learning. I have transcribed the scores using Musescore and exported them to midi, but am a bit confused about setting up the tracks correctly for the piano to recognise the left and right hands. In reading the forum I noticed that Jay Roland suggested that the left and right hand parts need to be on channels 3 and 4 (here), but in this thread he said they need to be on tracks 3 and 4.

I am new to midi, but i understand that tracks and channels are different.

Can anyone explain the difference please and does anyone know which to use in this case? I would also appreciate any suggestions for (cheap) software that will let me edit channels/tracks on the midi files so that they will work on the piano.

Thanks in advance. smile

Tracks and channels are the same thing. Sorry for the confusion.

You'll then need to make sure that the DigiScore engine is looking for the correct track/channel.

If i remember correctly, this is done when the main score screen is up, you press the (O) button to bring up the options and everything should be assignable from there.

Thanks Jay.

I have now worked out a method of transcribing using Musescore and then using Anvil studio to change the channels so that the piano will recognise the left and right hands on the channels it expects.

The options you pointed out on the piano to change which channel it looks on are useful.
