Hi everyone

My hunt for the perfect mix of European upright and realistic-sounding silent system continues.

My ideal is a pipe-dream: a sub-€10k Schimmel/Sauter/Petrof with a lovely mellow European tone combined with Yamaha's SH system. As that is not possible, I am considering a German upright with silent retrofit. As I am new to all of this - in particular Midi systems - I need your expert advice.

I've tried Korg/PianoDisc systems and even Korg's iPad App (with Ivory plug-in). Nothing has impressed me so far aurally, sounding as much like a piano as ketchup tastes of tomatoes.

Is my ear too fussy or are there retrofit silent systems/Midi samples that actually sound like a piano, instead of offering 15 versions of the same, tinned piano sound?

Can any of you recommend a solution that gives Yamaha's SH a run for its money, or at least gets me close in sound terms, without costing the earth or leaving cables all over the place? Nothing I've tried so far even comes close.

Thanks again,

D

P.S. Can anyone provide a like-for-like chart matching Yamaha uprights to Kemble models?

I thought about adding sensors to my piano, but ended up getting a second (digital) piano. I wanted a reliable digital pickup so I figured "factory-installed" was the way to go.

By the way I thought the digital sounded spectacular but after a couple of days my preferences went back to the acoustic wink

It sounds like no matter what keyboard you get you will still add a software piano to satisfy your tonal needs... unless you change your own expectations.
