I had to get this going, my hilariously overpriced piano finds have gotten out of control lately, LOL!

Here's a good one:

Well, it has a $7,500 appraisal, so it must be legit…

The $4000 he gets will go a long way towards the $20000 Brambach grand he is looking at.

Sometimes the individuals you deal with through CL are fruit-loops as well. I enquired about a 6'8" Kimball Viennese model grand piano advertised on CL once. Those are pretty nice pianos, to be a Kimball. On the first call, on my cell-phone, the guy wants to know if I have a land line to prove I am who I say I am. So, I give him my land-line phone number. Next, I tell him I'm upgrading from my current grand; then, he wants to know if I need to sell my other piano first, or do I have the money in my bank account to buy his piano. I tell him I have the money and don't need to sell my piano first.

Next, he says he don't like having strangers come to his home, and wants me to assure him I'll buy the piano if he allows me to visit his home and look at it. I tell him that I cannot assure him that I will buy the piano until I look at it and play it first. So... no-go. He's a fruit-loop and I'm allergic to fruit-loops. He can keep his piano till the cows come home, as we say here in the south. smile

There is another PW thread maybe on the technician's site that has hundreds of ads even much more hysterical than the one posted here.

I blame the technician who has appraised it at that price, if one really has. The owners are clearly not piano people- I love the way that a selling point is that no work has been done so the action is all original yet the casters have been "upgraded".

So they get an appraisal of $7,500. Can't you see their logic- would be nice to get the full amount- but let's not be greedy so go for 50% for a quick sale, well round it up to $4,000. To them it looks good because the cabinet has been repolished.

True. But why not post a similar thread here? Some PW members do not visit the technician's forum. And, parallel threads are posted on the different forums frequently.

Just my .02.

I had to chuckle when I read "No REASONABLE OFFER WILL BE REFUSED," at the end of the writeup! But I suspect that what they think is reasonable will be ... well ... unreasonable! wink

Anyway, I think they have every right to get back what they invested in that $4000 caster upgrade! thumb

Hmmm.... Carl Weber. Was he related to Albert Weber, founder of the Weber piano company?
Or was he just the guy who used to own this piano, and did he take his desk name card with him when he left his job so he could glue it to this piano to hide the unknown Asian branding?

My favourite one from a few years back was someone's poor attempt to add value to their old piano. They claimed it had "ABIT OF HISTOREY", which wasn't a good start. Apparently the piano had been brought over to New Zealand by none other than "GOVERN GARY" (by which they presumably meant Sir George Grey, governor of colonial NZ in the mid 19th century). Unfortunately they also stated the age of the piano - it was manufactured decades after our mate Governor Gary passed away. wink

Our previous location had a changeable marquee on a major 4-lane highway.

In the midst of the last recession we posted "Even unreasonable offers considered!".

it got a lot of attention and a small article in the local newspaper.
