Good morning

I have been lerking here for a few weeks. I have started taking piano lessons again as an adult. ( 1 year so far). I played organ as a child for several years. I am currently playing on a Casio Privia which I like. At some point I would like to purchase a piano. I know nothing about pianos. What are good resources to learn.

Thank you.

Follow this forum. Play as many pianos as you can before thinking about buying. To educate yourself, ask the dealers to take you on a guided tour of the instruments you like.

I have a Casio Privia too, and they are good digital pianos, for the price.

On the acoustic, keep in mind that you will have occasional tuning and servicing expenses. I think most of the members here on PW, who appreciate an acoustic piano, keep their pianos tuned and maintained.

On the other hand, I think a lot of acoustic piano owners in general do not, for what ever reason.

But you will find, and I think you know this, or you wouldn't be posting here smile that there is a certain, natural sound you get from an acoustic piano that just cannot be replicated with a digital; although the technology of the digital pianos have come a very long way toward achieving that goal.

In my view, no matter how good or expensive the digital, it just can't reproduce that natural acoustic piano sound, albeit close. But as we say here in the south, close only counts with horse-shoes and hand-grenades. smile

Oh, and welcome to Piano World! You have come to the right place to learn about pianos, and with a variety of thoughts and opinions on the subject!

Thank you. I have looked at piano buyer and been a little overwhelmed. I think playing a variety of pianos will help too. So far I have only played my teachers Yamaha.

If you can find a dealer with a good selection and good reputation, that is still the best place to start. Visit several if you can.

The Piano Buyer is a great resource, and seeing a variety of new & used pianos in person will make the information more relevant and easier to use.
