I would say particularly for people who HAVE been to Chicago before! (But also for those who haven't.)

There are so many inexpensive hotels along the blue line. You do not need to stay on Michigan Avenue.

Hi, RonaldS! What do you mean by "blue line"? Are we still talking the downtown area, and is transportation an easy proposition? In any event, though, I'll wait for CPAC's recommendation -- but it is good to know that there are more reasonably priced options. Thanks for the info!

Blue Line is the train from O'Hare to downtown Chicago. It stops close to the competition venue.
In 2010, there was a contestant who stayed at Holiday Inn near O'Hare, and took the train. It takes about 40 min, but costs only $2.5. You may want to stay closer to the city so it will be a shorter commute.

I'll be there helping out in the background. Looking forward to meeting other PianoWorlders!

[Edit]Oops, maybe I already said that in the first post - sooo long ago.

Just a few more weeks! If you are in the area and want to hear excellent pianists, get a free T-shirt, and maybe even be part of the live stream, the competition is looking for a few more volunteers:

-MC events (make actual announcements from the stage)
-Help with registration
-Help manage behind-the-scenes activities
...and more

To volunteer, please contact giovanna@pianofortefoundation.org or call 312.291.0000. ext. 701. ASAP!

Thank you!

I'll be there, DoctorS, and doughnuthole (don't know who that is), besides you and Ronald Steinway -- but I don't think anybody else from PW. They originally accepted 61 entrants, 29 in the 2-round and 31 in the 3-round; their last update indicated 56, meaning five have dropped out. A large number of new faces, with interesting and varied backgrounds -- it should be a full and interesting event!

See you there! (There are other PW people working behind the scenes, but you probably don't know who we are.)

But if you can't be there, here's the link to the live stream. Preliminary round begins 8/24, 9:00 am central time (US).

Tim is up next. Stay tuned. Any feedback for the crew on the audio quality?

Nice job Doctor_S! Some scintillating passagework in La Leggerezza and a very dramatic Rachmaninov Bb major prelude from Op. 23. Debussy Sarabande was a delightful contrast and very nicely rendered. I think this will get you to the next round mate.

Doctor S did great !!!!! thumb

Wonderful musicality in the Liszt - beautiful sonority and sensitivity in the Debussy - confident, majestic sound in the Rach.

Congrats Dave !!
