Tough to see, but in one of the teaser photos, one looks like it might be a Grand! smile

What new or improved features would you like to see? The current series of premium Rolands is a tough act to follow. I am very intrigued to see what they have up their sleeve.

Thas is what everybody was waiting for. Stage pianos series were too old compared to the new HP/LX series. Their grands are also 2 or even more generations behind. I have seen also FP80 out of stock in some stores.

Good thing, because I am just about to buy a piano, maybe it will be worth to wait.

Nice find DazedAndConfused - very intriguing!

The grand could be an updated V-Grand, or a grand version of the LX-17?

Live streaming from different locations around the world is impressive. Definitely something to look forward to.

Cheers,
James

I highly doubt it it's a new grand that will be announced. Those are just some photos and the grand is there because it looks most "piano"-ish wink Taking in mind there are only two known people in the world so far who have bought a V-grand, it's obviously not a product that's of interest to mass customers to need such a tease campaign. I believe the most probable scenario is fully modeled stage pianos, probably RD900, FP90 and RD400 or FP40.

The RD-1000 came out in 1986, the V-piano in 2009. Therefore, it's too early for an updated V-piano (which is due out in 2029 lol...). A grand version of the LX-17 is interesting idea, but not betting on it.
The RD700GX came out in 2008. The RD700NX came out in 2010. The RD800 came out in 2014. This might mean an RD800_X is due out this year with an improved action and perhaps a few fully modelled presets.

More likely: the FP80 and 50 need an action upgrade: that could well happen. RD400 is quite likely; however, will it get the PHAIV, the PHA-50, or an intermediate action between the two in order to placate RD800 owners. If the RD800_X comes out, the RD400 also can have the PHA-50 action (or equivalent stage version).

Maybe they'll bring out more cabinet models, some new keyboards etc.

Now's a great time. It's a fact that: there's no time like the present lol...

You big tease!!!

Ok, playing the game: is it 3 piano releases and 3 keyboard releases, or is it just 3 releases including at least 1 piano or keyboard?

I've personally sold 10 times that amount of V Grands over the last few years. No it's not a huge volume item. But the ones who get it, really get it.

I enjoy the speculation about what is upcoming though. It is nice being the only person on the PW forums who actually knows what's coming.

Well, I was being rather sarcastic wink I actually meant "Taking in mind there are only two known people in the PianoWorld so far who have bought a V-grand".

Jay, is it true that the -about to be released- Roland Grand will use an action designed in collaboration with Steinway/Renner?

All will be revealed on September the 9th, or #909Day as we like to call it.

I will make a post on that day if there are product(s) I think will be of interest to the membership of the PW Digital Forum.

That photo isn't of a grand, the black notes position where hes playing it would indicate an fp50 updated to look like a grand . . . .

Damn! I got less than a month to sell mine . . . .(Joe King)

What can it be? A new category of musical instrument being launched in Toronto? Jay, we must be told! The suspense is killing us!

Don't worry, I am sure you will be able to find another job after you have spilled the beans .... smirk

In the picture in which there is a guy with an accordion next to a Roland (Grand?) digital piano, it is very noticeable the short distance from key's front to their pivot.
I wonder how much would add to the price using a decent geometry action, and I don't think it only about Roland, it is a general issue.

X-ray vision? We have that here?

My vision is seeing a rollout of a super trendy Roland accordion with premium Nord-styling, as well as a Roland grand "super-natural" piano.

Here's an idea: how about putting real Renner action into an accordion! I'll not sue you over this, I'd just accept few millions on a good will from Roland or whoever manages to first adopt that bright idea! smile

P.S. Oh, crap, it won't work vertically frown

Even though I have X-ray vision, I can't see pivots because the picture has been taken in the visible light range of electromagnetic spectrum. Anyway I infer that keys are short because of the angle that pressed keys form with respect to others.
The front of the key travels about 10mm for any piano, on a accoustic piano, the last visible part of the key travels at least 5mm (on a baby grand), that means that you have to apply twice force to get the same sound.
A concert grand has a longer pivot, so the force to be used doesn't differ much regardless the point of the key you are hitting.

I know what it is, mark my words...

It is a V-Grand that sounds like an accordion!!!!!

I doubt there will be any competition for this product. smile

Everybody knows that all the best piano players only hit the keys at the edge. So the pivot position doen`t matter. . . . grin
