I so share your sentiment. George Gershwin is my favorite American composer. It is because of listening to his music that I came to love jazz. As we can see, his music withstands the test of time. So fortunate are we to have had him. And Ira.

Wow! Thank you for the link.

My wife (vocalist) and I are doing a concert (here in Canada) on 'Americana' five days after the U.S. election. It features Gershwin, Copeland and Spirituals as well as a solo piano transcription of Copeland's Appalachian Spring.

I just got Wild's Seven Virtuoso Etudes on Gershwin songs.

Interesting. The pieces are perfectly written by a pianist for a pianist. The notes lie beautifully under the hands. 'Fascinatin Rhythm' sounds much more difficult than it actually is.

I was ignorant of these transcriptions. Thank you for posting the video.

New encores! Wohoo!

I heard Wild play his Fascinatin' Rhythm as an encore at Carnegie Hall a long time ago. By then he had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand and applauding (wildly). Then he comes out again and walks along the flat side of the piano to its tail and then comes around the curved side and walks towards the bench. Of course, the audience thought he was going to sit down and play another encore, but he just kept walking straight off the stage to hysterical laughter.

This is really remarkable! Gershwin himself.

I Think it's OK. This is a bit of an insider's forum. Our audiences won't know. thumb
