Are ABF and other PF members interested in participating in a recital focusing on French composers? This could be sometime next year. I think the Pianist Corner forum is planning a themed recital of Spanish and Latin American composers next year, We could coordinate the timing so that they don't both happen near the same time.

In addition to the well-know composers - Debussy, Ravel, Faure, Saints-Saens, Satie, Poulenc - there is a long chronological list of French composers in this link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronological_list_of_French_classical_composers

Piano pieces by Debussy, Ravel, Faure, Poulenc and Saints-Saens are listed in this link:

I didn't manage to attend to the Russian recital, but I would really like to try to contribute to a French recital if arranged. I'm a lover of Faure's piano music and would really like to promote it.

Weird, I posted but I don't see it.

Anyways, I'm interested! I'd probably pick something by Faure having never done any of it before, and maybe brush up on a Ravel piece. smile

You should absolutely try some Faure. He composed a lot of piano music, most of which is really beautiful, but underplayed. Unfortunately not many simple pieces, but with your capabilities this will not be a problem. Start checking out his nocturnes and notice the development from romantic music to modernism.

I'm interested. I will probably submit something from the Dolly suite duets by Faure and potentially a movement of one of Ravel's concertos depending on how much time I have.

I'm also interested. Would love to play something of Saint-Saens. You can count me in!

I was just listening to his Impromptu No 2. Is there an edition of his sheet music you can recommend? I can print from IMSLP, but if theres a nice one out there (good fingerings, good edition) then I'll invest.

A French themed recital would be great!

Hi, PianogrlNW! Yes, I'd definitely be interested -- and you are correct in saying that there has been talk of a Spanish/Latin American Themed e-Cital in the Pianist Corner's Forum, but as of right now nobody has stepped in and said that they're willing to manage such an event, and so the coordination of either or both is definitely on the table as we speak.

So then what deadline are you thinking, PianogrlNW? And should we begin a list for people to sign up?

I was going to wait a few days to see if there is interest but it appears that there is a strong interest in participating. How do people feel about March or April of next year? The next quarterly ABF recitals are in November, February and May.

For previous recitals there has been a discussion about the "rules", e.g. number of submissions/person, duplicates. It seems that the approach to not make a lot of rules has worked out. Participants can submit more than one piece and dupes are allowed? Does this sound reasonable? I can post a poll if people want that.

I look forward to being the recital administrator if someone who has done this can give me some guidance. I can put out a sign-up sheet this week. I think the French repertoire lends itself to pianists of a wide range of abilities to participate, so I would encourage those new to the piano to participate as well as piano veterans.

I have a Ravel piece for next year's exam but I need roughly 2 months to get it to draft presentable stage...

Good idea. March-April sounds good. I'm working on a rare gem by an obscure French composer smile

Once a sign-up list is started, I think it would be good for some knowledgeable folks to list a few suggestions that would be good for beginners, early intermediates, etc. Links to Youtube examples would be helpful.
