From This Blog ...

This unique piano house was built recently in An Hui Province, China.

Inside of the violin is the escalator to the building.

The building displays various city plans and development prospects in an effort to draw interest into the recently developed area.

Now this is the place to have a Piano Forums Party!!

Wow, that is amazing! It's incredible what they are able to do in China these days -- good things and bad. This one is very creative!

I am sorry to say but this is nothing new.

The subject was brought up a few days earlier by JohnEB:

That is hilarious!

schwammerl: I didn't see the earlier post!

P.S. Speaking of places to have a piano party, didn't anybody else see the newspaper article in the Boston Globe about the guy who has something like 20 pianos in his house. He lives somewhere near Boston Massachusetts as I recall. I was thinking if we can't pursuade him to host a party, we could just tie him up and invade his house. laugh I'm only kidding, honest!

Hi, Frank: This was in the Boston Globe about a year ago. I saved the article, was afraid I might not be able to find it, but TA-DA - I did!

Sep 22, 2005 (OH MY GOD IT WAS THAT LONG AGO?)

PIANO MAN: HE WANTED A STEINWAY GRAND, NOW HIS COLLECTIONS FILLS THREE FLOORS.

It's about a guy named Richard Marcus who lives (lived?) in Dorchester, MA. At the time the article was printed, he had 13 pianos in his house and the article states "he shows no signs of stopping" (buying pianos!)

Are they playable? I recall they are. But I'm sifting through the article again right now. Let me see what it says... I have to turn to Page H4.

"Over the past three years, he has hosted a small series of concerts at his home, which have featured acquaintances."

There are some photos of some of the pianos:

1906 Erard Grand/rosewood
ca. 1817 Clementi & Co square piano/mahogany
1906 Chickering & Co grand/mahogany
ca. 1890 Steinway & Sons grand/oak
1947 Baldwin grand/ebonized wood

"In hosting the concerts, Marcus hopes to foster a communcal tradition similar to the salons of 19th'century Europe...."

What a Great House!!! laugh

I thought for sure someone would see this article and post here, but I guess no one did, and then I forgot about it.

Jeanne W

When we were shopping for a grand last year i talked several times on the phone to a professional pianist in S Calf who has a very large mansion with 20 plus grands. He places them in his house and puts them up for sale. He has a used and rebuilt piano store in his home. He often advertises in Craigslist. He is a really interesting entertainer as well a pianist and has a web site which gives a lot of details. If anyone wants to talk to him about hosting a piano party, then I will help locate him again. (Maybe his mansion looks like a piano)
