Hi

I live in Dallas, Texas. I am looking to buy a used Yamaha U3 which is in excellent condition and reconditioned by Authorized Yamaha Piano dealer with a 5 year warranty.
The cost is $7000. Is this a reasonable value ? It is a M33XXXXX series and manufactured in 1981.

There are other sellers on craigslist here who sell same series for $4500 but they are local parties and not authorized Yamaha dealer.
I just dont want to buy from an unknown seller. Is $7000 is too much?
The new one costs $13000. I can buy a new Yamaha P series for this price but I am just in love with U3. Please suggest

Thanks

$7,000 seems a bit high for a 1981.

you didn't indicate if it was the specific U3 at the authorized dealer you're 'in love with'. it's typical for an authorized retailer to ask a couple of thousand over a private seller for a piano of that type and brand. if you love that retailer's U3 after playing it, and strongly prefer doing bidness with an authorized dealer, you can always try haggling if you don't trust the price. if you have not tried the piano yet, just my hunch, there are probably other used U3's in the Dal area including other piano retailers, and you need to play both the dealer's and one or two others to assess relative value.

I haven't seen a used U3 in a store for a while, but two days ago I played a couple of used U1s from the mid-late 80s that were priced about $4,400.

I would definitely visit all the stores in the area to play their used and new uprights—as huaidongxi pointed out, there may well be other used U3s available, plus playing other models also gives you a good comparative basis for evaluating the one you're interested in.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I spoke to a local technician from piano guild. His feedback also that the price is too high. It is easy to get used U3 for less than $5000 from an individual seller but I lose the warranty and need to pay in cash. Wish they do finance options on these as well. It is almost the price of a car smile

I am planning to settle with a new P22M as I can have a O% APR on my credit card.
For a used U3, I have to pay in cash and a new one(13k) is totally out of the budget.
Hope a new P22M is a good option over a used U3
