Has anyone done a retrofit install of a Magic Lid system on a 7 foot grand?

Can this be done on-site or is this a shop job?

Anyone in the Chicago area authorized to install this?

The other day, I lost control of the lid while closing my SF-10 and - BANG! Fortunately, no damage to me or piano - those Baldwins are built like tanks. I may not be lucky the next time.

Yes, I've done several retrofits—including Baldwin SD-10.

You had a scary experience but nothing like what happened to the pianist who was lifting the lid on the SD-10 and it slipped onto her hand and.... she's not a pianist anymore. The church where that episode took place had the Magic Lid installed as a worker safety issue. It's a consideration which is rarely considered but perhaps should be.

Hi Duke,

I wrote about having the system installed on my 7-footer in the most recent Piano Buyer, here:

Thanks. I've sent a message to Vienna. Per google though, there are references to PianoDan and to two websites that are dormant. Who actually has the rights to this? I am aware of a legal dispute between the patent holder and Hailun.

Right. I think the Hailun people exclusively market and sell the system, however you can see that all parties collaborated to help out in my installation.
