Hello, I'm new to the forums and was wondering if anyone would be able to suggest some pieces that might suit me. I recently had to stop taking lessons due to scheduling conflicts but would like to learn something new on my own. I would say that rhythm is my weakest area and something I've always found challenging. The last two pieces I learned are Odeon by Nazareth and Chopin's Nocturne in E flat minor (which I found difficult). Thank you for all your suggestions!

Hi Mong,

If you were my student here are some pieces I might assign in (my opinion of) order of difficulty.

You might like some pieces by

MacDowell "To a Wild Rose"

The Mozart Minuets

Grieg "Elfin Dance" op 12 no.4

MacDowell "Alla Tarentella"

Beethoven op 49 no. 2

Bach 2 part inventions

Chopin Prelude op 28 no. 15 Raindrop

Mendelssohn Songs With Out Words

Daquin "The Cuckoo"

Just to name a few

Just to get you started. May I Also suggest Ben Crossland's "Cool Beans" books volumes 1 and 2. The have accessible pieces that are a bit more modern and awesome to play. (My adults students like them a lot). You can get them on Editions Musica-Ferrum http://www.musica-ferrum.com

Start with the easier ones, Watch youtube videos, and have fun. If you have scheduling conflicts consider finding an online teacher. It works really well.

Hope this helps and best wishes!

Doreen: Huge thanks for the mention.

mong: One idea would be to go over to youtube, like Doreen says, and start from the very nocturne you learned, leaving open the "suggestions" or "play next". Youtube will take over and you'll start listening to things you have not heard. After that you may be able to tell if it's right for you or not.

Otherwise Doreen covered a lot of ground. smile

My teacher says to always count (I lack discipline and never did it much as a kid) and has had me use metronome quite a lot (not overuse. I use it to fix problems and play scales etc). My timing problems have greatly improved. Sight playing practice with easy pieces with tricky rhythms helped me too.

Thanks so much to this thread! I just purchased Cool Beans 1. Wonderful pieces.

What a wonderful resource that site truly is.

I had a question though. I see they are shipping something. Is there a download link so I can have it on my iPad Pro too?

Hi Terry,

First of all, if you're the Terry I saw in our ordering page, then you've already Easy Beans! rather than Cool Beans Vol. 1.

On your question, the answer is no. There isn't a download link to have the score digitally. smile
