Very interesting new piano software by Roland for Windows/Mac.

https://www.rolandcloud.com/instruments/acoustic/tera-series/tera-piano

Hard drive requirement is 3.8GB. It is my understanding that the 8TB of sound data on the cloud is used for rendering, not for playing. Roland's excuse for a library this size is that you can hear more subtle nuances and articulations.

During a video I watched, a Roland rep at NAMM said that normal midi (7 bit, 127 input values) can be "upscaled" to Rainlink (24 bit, 60.000.000 input values), and that there would be some randomization.

Here is the interface Roland is showing on their beta website:

Lots of interesting stuff shown here. There seems to be only a side and lid mic position. Very strange. I also wonder if there are different pianos, and what those could be. It definitely seems like you can choose different pianos/presets. Not too sure what a "Soule Piano" is.

What are your thoughts? If Roland starts putting out more pianos then the subscription based service might start to seem inviting...

Is this to provide the Roland digital piano's ("supernatural") sound as a VST?

Nope, this is a new sampled piano.

Kind of OT, but are the Supernatural sounds in the Integra-7 sampled or actually generated on the fly by the Supernatural engine?

Soule Piano would be named after one of the founders of Roland Cloud...Mr. Jeremy Soule.

Impressive resume as a composer. I had the pleasure of meeting him at NAMM 2016. Super awesome guy.

It seems to me that Roland is targeting people who want to use this software to render a piano track, and not pianists looking to simply play piano.

Also worth noting, according to the subscription policy, if you cancel within 7 days you will be refunded.

He's the guy who scored the video game Icewind Dale in 2002. It's one of the best game scores I've ever heard, and within that game Kuldahar Theme is one of my favorites.

Well I ended up subscribing and I was disappointed. The local piano is only 1GB in size (even though the website recommends 3.8GB+ of free space). I couldn't figure out how to use the cloud version of the piano. Nothing was happening with my connection. Maybe it's not available right now during beta?

Anyway, if you were thinking about subscribing I would wait until the beta is over at least.

I've had a similar login issue. I suspected the reason, but wait a little bit for Roland to respond, which they did not. It's laughable, but somehow musical people and IT/computer workings don't meld well.

The simple fix is to change your password so there are only A-Z, 0-9 with no special characters. Then the login withing the VST works.

As for the piano, it sounds pretty nice, refined and clean.
