I played a 5 foot August Hoffman grand at a reputable local dealer. He said that they come from the factory (in China) without requiring a lot of extra work on them prior to sale. He also said that the parts are of generally high quality (e.g., Abel hammers and spruce soundboards). However, the tone sounded thin and uninteresting to me. They are available in larger sizes, but this dealer had only the 5 foot version, and a lot of them!

August Hoffman is then a different brand than Hoffmann, Bechstein's third line?

I have once seen a Hoffman grand in a stand on a food exhibition in Cologne, but I was not allowed to play on it.

It is of very special importance to Canadian market, that August Hoffman piano originates from a particular area of Sweden with long, cold and very dry winters followed by a sudden change - humid and hot summers – very much alike climate conditions found in many regions of Canada.
Together with a lot of other less than candid descriptions of the brand, this gem graces the Clarkson Piano Centre website's description of August Hofmann.

Don't get me wrong, I own an old Kawai sold under another label. But this attempt to do everything possible to minimize the Dongbei role in making this "Swedish" piano is rather disingenuous.

There are hundreds of piano brands on the market, but only about 30 piano factories and behind them a dozen of piano making companies?

Correct?

In Sweden there is no piano factory, In Finland one (Hellas piano) and in Estonia one (Estonia - of course).

I know exactly where my pianos come from - but that is not the most important things with a piano, of course.
