Finally pulled the trigger on a Brodmann

Some of you have been following my search for my first piano. Well after getting really close on a Kawai RX6 and considering Yamaha (C3, used C5), Bostons, Petrof, Bohemia and a few others I have put a deposit down on a Brodmann 187. I will not be able to take possession of the piano for a few weeks pending the closing on my new house. I will hold my complete opinion on the piano and the dealer until it has been delivered and I’ve had some time to play it.
Some preliminary thoughts; I’ve purchased through Ori at Allegro Pianos and all I can tell you is the experience with Ori is amazing; he is very knowledgeable and gracious. It did not appear (although to him I’m sure financially it did) that whether I was purchasing a Bluthner or a Brodmann that Ori could have prepared or presented the pianos any differently. He spent a considerable amount of time educating me about pianos from both a technical and performance perspective.
I had thought it would be distracting playing the Brodmann next to the likes of Bosendorfer, Bluthner, Steingraeber, Forster, Estonia and M&H but it actually drove home how good a value and piano the Brodmann is. Yes, there were some really fine pianos at Allegro that I would die for but there were actually others where I preferred the Broadmann. I think a lot of this is a testament to Ori's preparation skills.
To be fair I should reiterate that this is my first piano and I’m really a hack when it comes to playing. Ori is a very accomplished pianist and it was good to sit back and hear him play.
Anyway, I want to thank everyone for all the advice and messages; it has really helped.
Regards,
Rick

An excellent choice and one which you have made after due consideration of what is on offer.
All the very best for your new piano.
Kind regards,
Robert.

Oh, and congratulations on your new house, too! Seeing as you're probably in the throes of packing, it may not be so hard to wait the few weeks after all. Please post some photos when you get all moved in and settled. [/b] Thanks, Monica, first piano and first home all at once. Quite overwhelming but exciting.

I'm not sure though why you call your self a "hack when it comes to playing"... You're certainly being overly modest. I would describe your playing as quite advanced and very musical, but perhaps when the new piano arrives you could post some recordings and let the readers decide. Originally posted by Axtremus: Congratulations on your purchase! (And thanks for mentioning the dealer. I have been in contact with the Brodmann piano company for a while now regarding representation. However, recently I have seen some of the new instruments, which were produced in their new factory, and was quite impressed, to say the least. Two 187 pianos arrived to our shop only a couple of weeks ago. One was sold almost immediately, and Rick purchased the second piano, which I managed to get into the showroom only days prior to Rick's visit. Of course, working on and preparing these pianos was a good experience for me, and by this time quite a few more are on order. So, I'm pleased to say that now Allegro Pianos is the exclusive authorized Brodmann dealer for CT, NYC, Westchester and the surrounding counties. My tag line reflecting the change is just getting updated!

When Alex at Classical Grands in Seattle picked up the line 2 years ago, we took note. When I picked up the line shortly after, others took - or "may have taken" note. Including some of the finest teachers and piano students in our area..... When Ori picks up a line - everybody takes note. Is Brodmann about to replace all others? Nope. But it will remain one hell of a menace against a lot of those who have traditionally promised *lots* - but later kept [relatively] *little*.... CONGRATS TO A WONDERFUL NEW PIANO - undoubtedly one of the finest investments on the market today!! Norbert

We were the first in the country to get Brodmann(at that point they were Toyamas they had yet to purchase the brodmann name). The first batch was very impressive and have just gotten better since. The 187 in particular is very nice. Congrats on purchasing an excellent instrument!

The Parsons Factory has it's own company stores in China where they distribute their house brand, Toyama using all Chinese components. The Brodmann line uses components from Europe such as the Strunz Soundboard, Abel Hammers and other case parts. There is a distinction between the two lines and Brodmann is mainly built for export while Toyama is built for domestic sales. There are also different models between the two lines as well.
