Can anyone confirm the rumor that Belarus pianos glow in the dark as the iron ore for the plates comes from a site near Chernobyl?
Tuners, lead shop aprons?

The glowing plate (and strings?) would go well with a transparent plexiglass case, especially for the holiday season.

Ah, yes. The nice warm glow of radioactivity would complement the tree nicely. \:D \:D

I'm more of a fan of the "Red October" piano brand myself.

Actually, I play a Red October upright every week at my daughters' violin lessons (accompanying them), and it's lovely.

Wow. Must be an interesting story of how it came to be in Baltimore!

Zorba, the violin teacher is a Russian immigrant, but, as I understand it, they didn't bring the piano over but bought it from another immigrant. I actually have seen this before - when I was in high school, my piano teacher was from Russia and had brought her Russian upright with her (sorry, can't remember the brand, and last time I visited her she'd bought a Steinway to replace it). Sounds difficult, especially in those days, but somehow...

I took a "Red October" continental console in on trade once way back in my piano selling days. Put a little framed picture of Lenin on top of it.

I kept it on hand as an example of whatever former Soviet bloc piano brand I was trying to sell against.
