Hello all.

Does anyone know anything about Bergman Upright Pianos. I almost bought one today, but I wanted to check with the experts in this forum.

The only information I see listed in Perce Piano Atlas is quite terse. To quote: "BERGMAN, NY., Silent practice Klavier."

I would suspect the Bergman piano you are looking at if new is a lower end Young Chang made in China, not Korea.
I have a few customers that I service that have them and they are rather disapointed. There are much better Chinese pianos in that price range you should look at such as Pearl River or Beijing under various names.
Good luck.

pearl river website is www.pearlriverpiano.com. it's manu'd by pearl river, a chinese company, which was (or is still) making piano for yamaha, too. samick is korean company.

i am also a beginner and just completed a piano buying process. i tried to avoid chinese-made pianos, which this forum and the piano book do not recommend highly, although they are said to be improving. being a beginner, not knowing nitty-gritty of a piano, i want something more reliable and consistent. but, being beginner, i may not be able to appreciate fine features of a piano such as highly regulated action or touch. so, i settled for korean-made young chang, which for the price i paid, offered good value/quality balance and tone.

To the surprise of my customers [and myself!]
we have been quite surprised about these pianos and the fact how surprisingly WELL they have performed for the normal HOME RANGE
.....for which they were built!!

And we have sold virtually hundreds of them!

While the initial lack of cleanliness of how these pianos originally arrived from the factory [I must have worn off three aprons just cleaning them!],as well as the less than perfect exterior finishing may have turned off the overly timid, their huge attraction by PRICE and VALUE has forced us to become not only well versed with this beast...but excel by NECESSITY!!

Which, by sheer numbers sold...we must have!

Today I wish I could show you all what we're
able to "cook" on these pianos as we have developed a VERY "special" prepping.

[Top secret 'German technology'......]

Imagine,we're now even being accused of selling 'gorgeous sounding pianos' with a strange sounding name from Germany.......

...No, Mr. Customer....

...YOU GUESSED WRONG!! [er..dead wrong!]

'Factory imperfect' pianos are like a bunch of wild horses:

Know how to corall and treat them.....

....and they'll be just fine little kittens!

That's why I have always felt we need more good cowboys in this industry.....

...singing with our customers in unison...

..."Home on the range".....

[Young Chang..send me sales commission cheque
...but I won't sell my 'formula!]

Bergmann pianos are manufactured in China by Young Chang. I believe the plant is located in Tjian(?).

I have not yet run across a Bergmann vertical that I really liked. On the other hand, the 5'9" grand really surprised me, much better than the company's shorter grand.

All pianos, but ESPECIALLY Chinese pianos benefit from being sold by a good dealer, one who preps the pianos well and services after the sale.

If you are still interested in Chinese verticals, some I would look at include Pearl River, Conn, the Nordiska 116 and Kingsbury. Remember, quality can vary, even in identical pianos from the same manufacturer.

Good luck! \:\)

Norbert, you are referring to Korean YoungChang and not the PearlRiver, aren't you?

Are you talking about the Bergman vertical or the Pearl River.
