I am not a piano player, but, I wish I was. I am looking for a baby grand piano and someone recommended that I consider getting a Bergman BTG157 (baby grand)with a player since I am not looking to spend a large amount of money. Apparently, Bergman is made by Young Chang and is shown on youngchang.com. Does anyone have any thoughts about this piano? And also, I saw a good deal on a Suzuki grand w/ player, but, I don't know anything about that one either.

Where is everyone? Please help....

There were quite nice pianos, we carried them with good success for quite a while.

Depending on price and condition, these are very stable pianos, Chinese built but almost a bit ahead of their time...

I have not had good experienc e with Suzuki pianos and/or Suzuki service.

Bergman line is/was the lowest entry line for YC from their Chinese factory. Depending on your budget you can do better.

They are selling the Bergman for $8,990 and it is new w/ the disc player. It sounded like such an inexpensive piano that I was not sure if I would be wasting my money. Keep in mind that I don't play, so for now, I don't need the best either. I just don't want to end up w/ a piece of junk, so I'm trying to do my homework as best I can.

If it's new, you're getting a warranty,no?

The latest Bergmann product from Young Chang is really quite good and our "experts" here who have not played the latest product made under Hyundai should do so prior to making recommendations. Frankly, I was not a big fan of the previous generation of Bergmann pianos, but the new ones are really nice instruments. The fit and finish is as good as any piano made by Japanese companies, they sound sweet and round and the actions are every bit as good as the best feeling Japanese built actions or some of the new comers from China that are often touted here and cost more. And unlike some of the new comers these pianos comes with a warranty backed by a giant company, Hyundai. IMO these are some of the best dollar values out there.

No such thing as a good deal on a Suzuki.

Please bear in mind, a piano with a player system gets about 70% more use than a piano without. Don't cut corners on the quality of the piano.

I tend to agree with Larry Fine's assesment of the Bergmann. They are the bottom of the food chain.

When we were dealers we made them sound very nice and had good success with them.

As everybody knows,it all depends you you 'treat' a piano - put in a bunch of solid work - and they came out quite nice!

Before you go making blanket statements like that you really need to examine the fit and finish and play a brand new one. Fine's statements are at least a year old and he made those statements based on pianos he saw over the previous year or longer so that does not take into account the newest product availabvle today with Hyundai's influence.

I have examined and played many of them. I still think they are the bottom of the food chain and Hyundai isn't much farther up the scale.

First of all, if you played the latest product coming out of the factory and have come to that conclusion than I respectfully tell you your conclusion is flawed. Our techs have been all through these pianos and are quite frankly astonished at how good they are. I too was not the biggest fan of the prior generation but the new pianos coming out of that factory are amazingly good.

Second Hyundai branded pianos have not been made for many years and when they were, they were a stencil on a Samick piano and have nothing to do with Hyundai's purchase of Young Chang and the pianos they are now making.
