Are these an advantage?

If yes, what are the real or theoretical(if it hasn't been tested)advantages of using these kind of plates?

Which manufacturers besides Mason Hamlin use them?

I bought a Mason BB because I loved the sound and touch but I am curious about what members think about these kind of plates.

Larry Fine's book indicates that "full perimeter plates" are more or less a marketing gimick. Beyond that I have no idea.

Yamaha uses them on their vertical pianos.

Pearl River uses one on their 4'7" grand. Go figure!

All new M&H pianos use a full perimeter plate now, whereas before, it was just the BB that had it. Must be something to it? I wonder if Dell can chime in here and explain the pros/cons of a full perimeter plate. \:\)

My old Knight upright had one. As far as I could tell its main function was to cause complaints about the weight from anyone who had to move it.

Best wishes,
Matthew

I was hoping to hear from some techs or Mason Hamlin dealers on this topic.
