oh don;)t be too serious guys, just don't be too easily offended either.

To really know which piano is better or score higher, we need a robot player.

Mr roboto will play a selection of classical/comtemporary/jazz

He will plot a parento chart
plots tone timbre vs loudness
keystroke accel vs dB
His spectrum analyzer will report tone eveness
All 88 notes fundemetal and partial plots.

but you have to pay USD50,000 for the lab time, excluding piano rental and master tuner

With this concrete discrete test result, the winner is clear. yet it is still highly debatable due to every individual have a different ear/sensor response laugh

totally meaningless

i had a dream ....

this piano shop is so nice, he lets me take to piano home to trial for 2 weeks. End of 2 weeks, i can decide U1 or K5... plus he will throw a 1st birthday(ownership) party with a 1pound blackforrest cake ...

The real truth, LangJaiRay, is horrifying. It's that there is no clear, definitive answer to your question. It is purely subjective based on your ear and sense of touch. But now comes the good news. You can't make a mistake with either choice.

If you choose the Kawai though, I would then look at the K-3 with an eye towards saving a few bucks ....

That's right.
Both are good choice.

Burger king or McDonald
Mushroom Cheese or BigMac
Toyota or Honda

I gave him thumbs up for offering to take the piano back or exchange it. I'm not looking for a fight here, turandot. Why are you badgering me? You have even gone as far as to bring another thread into this one when they are unrelated.

You know, every other forum I have ever participated in has a moderator that would have already dealt with a bully. You, turandot, are a bully.

PS: I did go back and add lots of smilies to my holy grail comment(thanks for the tip, Ken). I would have thought such an absurd comment would have been taken as a joke. Again, to any offended Kawai people I offer my sincere apologies. I actually owned a Kawai 902T! Traded it for my first grand, but I liked it very much.

Blondie,

This is getting silly. Here are a bunch of smilies for you. I threw in an extra one for good measure.

Why don't you tell us about your first grand and your U1 and why you like the Yamaha action. Meanwhile I'll go backstage and sharpen my horns. laugh

This HAS gotten out of hand, especially since the K5 vs U-1 debate is religion not science. Both are fine instruments, even though the K-5 won't go out of tune as quickly because it uses ABS plastic, and also has mahogany thingamajigs with reinforced felt. Then again, the U-1 has an overall brighter tone, smoother action, and helps you lose weight if you play it like Elton John in his prime or, dare I say it, Jerry Lee Lewis, cause everyone knows you play pop, rock, or jazz on the Yamaha and classical on the Kawai.

There! Are there any stereotypes I've missed? Wait! Neither have agraffes, so you should ditch both and get a K-6 or a Petrof. Then again, why pay European prices when you can get today's real Holy Grail ..... a Hailun [can you hear the violins in the background?), which has agraffes and is priced like a K-2. But yuck, the Hailun is made in China and uses basswood for the keys, not spruce ......

Now let's all be friends, and remember that whatever piano you get is better than not having one. So let's all have nice days. I'm off to research a used Schimmel ...

This was my fault & I'm sorry. I usually type up a smart a-- reply to some posts, look at it a second, have second thoughts & then just erase the whole thing. For some reason, this time, I hit the button. This really is like arguing religion. Please, for godsake, let's lighten up.
