You told us you're a Steinway dealer but you insist on keeping your location, store name and your name secret.
That surprises me.
After reading your posts I would expect you would welcome the extra sales.

Do you know whether it is against company policy for Steinway employees, or dealers, to post on Internet forums about Steinway pianos?

I have been here since 1999 and, unlike other manufacturers, Steinway has been dead silent.
In fact their silence has been deafening.

Did Steinway change their policy.
Do you speak for them officially?
Do you feel what you do here helps or hurts the brand?

I have wondered why Steinway dealers have been so absent here. I always assumed it is because they were chased away but maybe Kenny is right that it has something to do with their policy.

I really miss the representatives of Steinway.

Luke's Dad - remember him?

He posted while working at Jordan Kitt's and helped with the retail perspective of S&S... without the dog and pony show.

Turandot,

KawaiDon has always been a very valuable contributor here. He has been a very direct problem solver and information giver, without any of the 'dog and pony show' Rich refers to. Another contributor (who has not been seen lately) is Sally Phillips of Bechstein.

Most manufacturers, however, are notable by their absence. The reason seems clear enough. Posting here is risky. You must avoid being drawn into conflict. The more you post the more people expect you to weigh in on things. Then your absence can be misinterpreted to 'speak volumes.'

Sally is no longer with Bechstein.

Then probably it's not correct to say that Steinway is notable by its absence (possibly activating another bashing alarm ). Better to say that KawaiDon and BoseEric are notable by their presence.

Cecil Ramirez from M&H is a frequent lurker and occasional poster as is Jeff Dunmire at Young Chang, PianoPeddler from Samick, Dino Flacco from Stigerman and Ron Gardiner from Pearl River.

I have also recently made a couple of posts for Bechstein-America.

If so, is James Reeder of Lansing MI no longer doing that job?

Wow! An entire thread devoted to me! i can't believe it. In all seriousness, though, Kenny, I appreciate your question. My anonymity is for a reason. I certainly cannot represent Steinway & Sons as I am one person and the company is made of many members. I am a salesperson who simply enjoys this forum very much and learns much from it. I don't have time to write more right now but you'll see me around plenty! I'm glad that I can be one of the few voices for the Steinway family of pianos (Steinway, Boston, Essex)...at least from a different persepctive.

Well to be fair she has answered some of the questions. She has said that she has a reason to remain anonymous. As a salesperson this could logically be a job protection measure. After all, you are anonymous too. Since you cannot test the truthfulness of anyone's reason, the actual reason given, if any, does not matter much.

She has said that she does not represent Steinway as a whole - in effect merely her own views as a salesperson.

She has not commented on S&S policy, or any change thereof, but she may also not know the official corporate position if she is
merely a salesperson.

She has disclosed that she is a dealer., hence complying with forum best practice. She cannot be accused of advertising her own store here as its location and name is not disclosed - she is just saying positive things about the brands she represents. There are enough knockers around so I for one have no issue with a person posting the other angle as there are enough experts around to bring her up short if she posts blatant nonsense.

From the fully biased and economically tied "salesperson" perspective, yes, that's very helpful to any forum.

Your post reads like Fox News. "The Media is Liberal so we're the Balance". How about, 'the media (forum) is balanced and you're the extremist'? I think you work at the factory and were sent here on a PR mission.

There are plenty of people here who like and/or own the pianos. The numbers on percentage may not be what you'd like to see as a sales rep, but I don't see the need to balance the scales by advocating for the family of brands specifically.

It's an open forum, so have at it, but your tone and intentions seem less than spontaneous.

Really, dealers cannot win here.

If we hound out the dealers, a piano forum becomes just a bunch of people chattering, in a fairly uninformed way. At least the dealers can sometimes add a fact or two about the brands they represent.

Dealers are obviously biased. Lets take it as read and accept it.

Without pointing the finger at anyone in particular, we seem to be blessed with some particularly vocal, self appointed forum police at the moment who are forever going on and on about the "rules".

It is a moderated forum, so I respectfully suggest that we let the members contribute positively and let the moderators intervene if dealers misbehave. All this sniping at dealers is surely getting ever so tedious.

Kind regards

Adrian

I don't know why, but I feel that she is a female dealer I met at SF's Sherman Clay.

I'm probably wrong though, just a hard guess.
