Hello,

I've recently started playing piano and am about to purchase a piano. I would like to purchase a reasonable quality piano.

Questions -

1 - I was originally planning to purchase a 5'6" piano because it seemed to fit the size of the room (15x24). However playing and listening at the dealers I thought the 6' piano sounded amazingly better. But is that too big a piano (sound wise - not furniture wise) for a medium size room?

2 - The two pianos I liked most were the Estonia and the Bohemia. To my ear the Estonia was a little richer - especially in the bass sections. On the other hand it was an additional 6000. It seemed to me that both pianos were good values. Does anyone have opinions on the relative merits of those two brands?

3 - The action of the Bohemia felt lighter and more natural to me. However a friend told me that is just because I'm learning on a keyboard and used to the lighter action feel. Perhaps when I have a real piano, I would prefer the heavier feel.

Anyway -
if anybody could toss some thoughts my way I would appreciate it.

Typing Estonia Bohemia in the search function of this forum will yield 70 results - threads that mentioned both brands. That's a good starting point.

Six feet is not too large, soundwise, for ANY room if you prefer the overall sound.

A six foot piano would be perfect in your room. Both Estonia and Bohemia are fine pianos. Lots of piano forum folks own Estonias and they rave about them. You'll find good things said about Bohemias as well if you do a search. You really just need to decide which one you like better. I also prefer the lighter action of the Bohemia. It's important to consider how the action feels to you when playing. It's not always true that you'll get use to a heavier action. Bottomline is that you can't go wrong with either. Good luck.
