is this unique/special on a piano? (the individual hitching and/or the Roslau itself) What are the benefits to this or is it just marketing as many "specs" seem to be?

(This is one of the specs on my[/b] 2004 Kohler and Campbell 5'9" grand. )

Any info?

Thanks

Roslau is great wire, considered the best by many.

Individual hitch pins come in handy when a wire breaks, you only lose one "cord" instead of two as in you would if the wire is looped around the hitch pin.

Of course it is more time consuming to make the piano with individual hitch pins.

Steinway does not do individual hitch pins.

Several weeks ago I tuned an Otto Altenburg grand with this type of stringing. Rolau wire is excellent piano wire as well. One advantage as pointed out is you only loose one unison in a three string unison when a steel wire breaks instead of two if the piano was loop strung. This helps lessen the stress on the hammers and action parts until the string is replaced. There can be some wires using single hitch pins strings near the plate breaks on loop strung
pianos. If the hitch pin loops are well made and very tight there may be some advantage in keeping the strings level. Perhaps some rebuilders or designers can add their thoughts on the subject.

So apparently it is not just marketing spin. Thanks for the information Larry & Jim. I appreciate it!
