Yeah, I saw a bit about them on 60 minutes, Holloween 2003.

They have 5 grand pianos in their apartment, so that they could all practice 10 (?) hours every day. They were home-schooled, and now all attend Juilliard.

You know, to some extent I might envy their pianistic skills a little bit. But you know, I really hate to think about what kind of a social life they had as kids and teenagers. Sure they have each other, but without school, and practicing 10 hours a day, when do they have the time and opportunities to meet and hang out with friends?

Maybe I'm just naive... eek

I'd have to agree Sam, although they don't look unhappy.

Ironic they are the "5 Browns", kinda reminds me of the "Jackson 5".

I saw them a long time ago on TV, talking about them all being accepted into Julliard. I was impressed, to say the least. I wouldn't mind being introduced to the Brown sisters, though.

I saw them live about 2 years ago.

Two of the sisters and the brother played a Mozart concerto for 3 pianos (not much room left on stage for the orchestra!), and they were delightful.

After intermission, the two older sisters played the Poulenc 2 piano concerto. Remarkable.

There was a pre-concert interview with them and the parents, and all seemed to be healthy, well-adjusted and intelligent. They really seemed to LOVE what they do. Made me jealous as heck.

And, I think only one of the sisters is married (the one on the right)!

George

It all depends what one wants out of the 'piano life'. Argerich expressed the sentiments more than once: a pianist's life is a loner's life.

I want to know how the younger male Brown makes his necktie defy gravity. Now, there's an accomplishment!!

Haha, I remember getting my Dad one of those Dilbert ties for father's day once. It was the same red one and it had a wire inside that makes it always stand up.

HA HA dilbert! dogbert is my hero too!

I heard about these people too. I haven't actually heard them play. heh, there might be a tiny smidge of jealousy (of their pianistic skills/opportunities), but not too much. well... I'll just keep telling myself that!

you know... I bet their parents have a lot of money... ha ha surprise, but that might not last after the expense of putting five kids through juilliard. dang.

stupid questions, how the heck does a person practice 10 hours a day? I don't even know what I would DO with ten hours of practice time!

i saw them on 60 minutes today (about prodigies) with some clips of their performance. the fact of 5 pianists in one family by itself is incredible, never mind what they'll turn out to be in the future.

Despite how very cool they seem, I think i will wait for them to prove themselves before I feed yet another corporate induced marketing frenzy. :p

Quote From 60 Minutes:

They don't smoke, drink, not even coffee, or use drugs.

I can fathom Mormon pianists not smoking, drinking alcohol, using drugs, and even abstaining from sex. BUT!!! Not drinking coffee, the lifeblood of any struggling concert pianist battling to prepare for juries????? That's just fascist!!!!
PS Don't want to gloat, but I recall being the first to bring the Brown twins to our attention, when I proposed them for the Month of June (or was it July, or August?) in my now defunct, "The Most Sexy Piano Babes Swimsuit Calendar". Who's smilin' now. :p
