Hi all,

I tried to get away from the "spinning record on youtube" video, so I did something atmospheric for this 45 RPM record ... wink
http://youtube.com/watch?v=XXR5c3EF2O8
Hope you like it. Are there any other classical 45 RPM records on youtube? Do you like this performance of Perlemuter?

Greetings,
Rolf

The idea may be good, but the camera movement is so unsteady - and so continuous - that it's difficult to watch. I thought maybe I was going down with the Titanic!

Put the camera on a tripod so the image is steady and,
- instead of constant horizontal and vertical movement, try some gentle zooming in and out, and
- as the camera moves towards an object, let it settle on that object for a while.

The idea may be good, but the execution is poor.

Regards,

BruceD

Ditto. Thanks again.

Vlado's Op 64 was about 1:43. I think Josef Hofmann dashed it off in 1:13. Much prefer Perlemuter.

The other Perlemuter videos on Youtube are worth watching.

Thanks for the comments....
I often use youtube as a windup 78 player;
Every minutes or so I have to "cranck the video's up" again... smile

This is the first time I heard of him!!

A nice and playful interpretation indeed!
I like how he tries to add additional voices to the overlying simple melody. I am guilty with the same charge.

Thanks

My understanding is that Perlemuter was regarded as the successor to Cortot as the dean of piano instruction in France. He was not as well known, though. Probably his Lithuanian origins and name did not help.

He studied with Moritz Moszkowski and Maurice Ravel. His Ravel playing is wonderful.

I beleive the "studying" with Ravel was more going through Ravel's work together. Ravel was very insecure about his own playing...
