Gotta love the sweat pouring from his face. He's pretty spot-on with accuracy, but Mazeppa is a romantic piece, and I think in many parts he just hammers away without communicating any sentiment whatsoever. Still, it's a worthy recital

Skeletony,

I wondered how in the heck he can relax playing when he has to keep a window wiper running constantly! I wasn't impressed by the recording or the other ones available from that concert, I wish Horowitz had recorded the set on or before 1941.

If I were have to suggest some recordings it would be a mix of Kissin's live and sutdio recordings of etudes from the set and Richter. I can provide dates if you want, or perhaps Iamcanadian will step up and help out.

Peace,
Daniel.

If you guys ever get this Berezovsky DVD, be sure to check out his Chasse Neige(Etude No. 12). I've heard ALOT of recordings of this piece, and his playing of it on this DVD is my favourite BY FAR.

Daniel--:
Richter's 1956 recording of several of the Transcendental etudes is easily one of the most exciting piano recordings in existence(right up there with Horowitz's 1950s Tchaikovsky Concerto with Szell).

Apart from the memory slip at 4:50 or thereabouts wink

If you don't know the piece it might not be that obvious, but just watch his hands in the overhead shot as they figure out what to do laugh

Iamc,

Yes it is amazing, my favorite recording from that set is the etude in A min--it's astonishing. If you haven't got his 1946 recording, you definetly should. Be warned though that a ton of mistakes come out in Eroica--mind you he plays those chords 3x faster than anyone else--but the Wilde Jagd is definetly something to hear. Also, try and get Kissin's various piece of the set from the live recording atthe Royal Festival 1995 or the studio one, or both. It is the only Kissin recording I truly adore.

Peace,
Daniel.
