The other night, I was playing through some late works by Liszt that were writtten after 1880 a few years before he died. These works are great. They're easy to learn technically and were truely prophetic for their time. It's a mystery why people have failed to recognize them.

I don't think they've been neglected. They show up in every keyboard literature class I've taken and occasionally on recitals.

The 3rd year from the "Annees de Pelerinage`"
The Canticle of the Sun
5 Klavierstucke
4th Mephisto Waltz (Bagetelle sans` tonalite)
Unstern!
Trauermarsch

and many more

all the above listed are masterworks. I'd bet that those people who like to degrade Liszt have no clue about the depth of his late period

Where do the Paganini etudes fall in? I JUST started the last one ( no. 6, the variations), and was just wondering about it.

The Paganini etudes are nice, and farely innovative. Of couse, La campanella is the most famous of these works. The sixth etude is mediocre when compared to the Brahm's Paganini variations (unfair comparison, but a handful nonetheless are more creative), but it is an interesting work.

Yep, Grey Clouds (Nuages Gris) is oft heralded as one of the first true breaks from tonality in the history of keyboard literature.
