You can wish Alfred Brendel a happy birthday by going to this website and singing the guestbook www.alfredbrendel.com

I don't know what the meaning of life is- I'm too busy to figure it out.

I heard parts of an interview between Alfred Brendel and Eric Friesen of CBC's "Studio Sparks" last week. In that interview, Brendel sounds like an absolutely charming, sympathetic and unpretentious man with whom one would enjoy conversing.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Brendel.

Neat. Philips is publishing four new Brendel albums this January to celebrate the occasion:

Brendel plays Beethoven - Philips 475 7182 (2 CDs)

Brendel plays Haydn & Mozart - Philips 475 7185 (2 CDs)

Brendel plays Liszt & Schumann — Philips 475 7188 (2 CDs)

Brendel plays Schubert — Philips 475 7191 (2 CDs)

Quote
This set of CDs is called 'Artist’s Choice' and represents a personal selection of recordings – both live and studio – which Alfred Brendel is particularly proud of and would like to share again with listeners.
Sounds like a good advertisement... In any case, I ordered the Liszt & Schumann album, as it has lots of stuff by Brendel I don't have yet (like the live Vallee d'Obermann; and the Liszt Sonata recording from 1991; and the Schumann Fantasy in C recording from 1997).

i was listening to his Tempest sonata's 3rd movement today, and still hate it, too much accents and too percussive. i'm getting too familiar with this movement and cannot stand his playing of it anymore. i like most Beethoven sonatas he played though.
