Dan M,

Nice instrument. Thanks for posting.

"drug of choice" Ha Ha Nice.

I see you have no carpet under piano, just hardwood flooring. I have read where a carpet helps the soundboard, and acoustics. Have you tried one or not. I know it's hard to cover up hardwood floors, they are so beautiful. But if it helps the sound of the piano.

Mazer,
I haven't tried a rug yet, but we are planning on putting them all over the place including under the piano. Haven't had the time to buy them yet.

wldrumstcs,

Thanks for posting. Looks like a big home. A Steinway nice. Microphones? Are they just to amplify sound, or to go through your home sound system?

Here are a few better pictures of my piano (sorry for the crummy quality and the weird light distortion on the left side of my piano. Oh, and our walls are not really vomit-pink, it's just the flash):

Hamiltonian,

That is a Beautiful Piano. Period
That first picture is nice with the stairway in the back. That don't look like a Texas ranch. LOL

From the Kawai Web-site:

Of all the musical masterpieces that come forth from Kawai, fewer than one in one hundred will bear the name SHIGERU. Meticulously handcrafted in carefully limited numbers, the SHIGERU piano brings to fruition a century of advancement, knowledge and craftsmanship. It is the culmination of one man's destiny... born to fulfill the lifelong dreams of the pianist.

Hamiltonian, that Shigeru Kawai is absolutely lovely with the wood interior. and your home! to die for, can I move in? ;\)

Wldrumstcs,
I love a good Steinway -- is that a B? how old is it? NY or Hamburg? the music stand in one picture tells me NY but it's hard to tell.
thanks for sharing !

You guess it - it's a NY Steinway. I actually preferred it over the Hamburgs only because Hamburgs tended to be a bit too brilliant.

Wldrumstcs,
It looks like it's very new and/or in great shape. As a fellow Steinway owner, would it be rude to ask its age and if it's a B?

teachum,

Thanks for posting. Nice photos. Love the wood grain on the Mahogany.
Was that you in the store purchasing it?
I think you need to move the carpet under the piano. Better sound, and balance. Nice Puppy's.

The ones with the rug under the piano are my home. The ones in the huge room are in Classical Grands storage building where they kept it for me until delivery. Yes - it is me. What do you mean about moving the rug? Do you mean directly under the piano with the front legs on it too? I have considered that, but its so HEAVY! I had the movers put it that way, but I wasn't sure.

It is always fun to see everyone's beautiful instruments, even if we've seen them before! Penny, that is a real stunner. I think Hamiltonian should have gottten the 9 footer! More suitable to the house. \:D

Yes, directly under piano. I've heard it improves acoustics.
And yes Hamiltonian looks to have a nice house. He should show us the rest of it.

Thanks, Mazer. Not to worry, the fireplace is nonfunctional and closed off. It would give a whole new meaning to smokin' that keyboard!

Teachum, I agree.

Thanks for starting this thread Mazer. I've seen some of these pianos before, along with stories of how the owners came to purchase them. Nice to see them again.

There are some beautiful pianos here.

M3,

Well I'm new to the piano world, and to this forum. So I haven't seen anyone piano's before, and I don't know the stories behind how they purchased them. You wouldn't believe how I purchased mine. I did it totally wrong. It's real nice everyone has posted here even if they have posted in the past. I Thank Everyone.

Yes, it is a 2003 NY Steinway B. I preferred it to the D so went with the B even though I believe the D looks cooler. Meh, I am playing the thing more than I am looking at it.

sophial,

Here it goes.

I was one of those people that didn't know any other make other then Yamaha, and Steinway. I have never played, or even looked at pianos until about 2 weeks ago. I have always wanted to play one, but never learned. I have always wanted to see a piano in a hotel lobby, or a mall, or any public place, and just sit down start playing, and get a crowd. I have always wanted to do that.

I was driving around with my wife one day (04/17/05) and stopped in a piano store to look at the Yamaha Disklavier piano's 5.3'. Thinking it would be cool to have one play on it's own, and I can play. I researched on the Yamaha web-site to know enough about them, but not knowing anything at all at the same time, if you know what I mean. I didn't know piano's sounded different from small sizes to big. I didn't know one brand from another sounded different. I knew nothing. And I didn't know how much a piano cost. Holy Tolito's was I in for a shock. After 45 minutes of the women demo'ng the Yamaha I ask how much. She told me 38.5. I thought $3850 and was like "write the check". When she wrote the order up and I had to pay I realized it was $38,500 I almost past out. I was so embarrassed. I felt like a fool. I couldn't find the toilet to flush myself out of there.

Well the women said, why do you want the Yamaha anyway with the computer, and showed me some others. (Pearl River, Petrof) The Petrof was more then I was ready to drop, and I didn't like the sound of the Pearl River. I purchased a Nordiska 185 Imperial Mahogony they had. I liked the sound, and all the things they told me about it.
So after 1 hour and 15 minutes I was a piano owner.
That's my story on how I became a piano owner. Not the way your supposed to do it. O well. I think I did good.

gtrhack,

Can I have his autograph now. In 10 to 20 years I hope to be able to make money with it. He could be the next Jim Brickman. LOL
Who is cooking breakfast?
The piano looks great on the wood floors.
