Do advanced players ever seek "second opinoins?"

Not exactly a "lesson," but, say, a consultation.
I'm re-learning a contemporary piece now that I have to record in a few months, and I'm not happy with what I'm doing with it. Usually I have a pretty good sense about what to do interpretively, but this is in a rather conservative, somewhat romantic style I haven't played in a very long time, and so I would like to consult with a high-level artist who plays this style all the time.
Is this unusual? Any suggestions?

I'm working with the composer, but matters of basic interpretation are left up to me. He's very happy with it, by the way, but *I* think it could be better. Michael Sahl's "Serenades" (1994) I like it a lot!
