Korsakov Concerto

My teacher got me the Konzert Concerto Opus 30 by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for my birthday last week and I have never heard of it before. It is going to be an ongoing project on the side while I am working on my competition music. My teacher is going to buy me the recording of it, because I don't know what it sounds like.
Has anyone played this concerto? I was wondering if anybody could give me some hints or suggestions.
Seems like an interesting piece!

I love this concerto[/b]. It is one of the most endearing jewels in the repertoire and a musical disgrace that it isn't played more often. It is not as difficult as its model -the Liszt Eb- but it overflows with Rimsky's familiar melodic delights. Technically it's rather straightforward and shouldn't pose too many problems, assuming you have reasonably solid equipment.

This is the f-sharp minor, yes? I have read through it--I believe it gets a play here and there, but not much. Fine piece!

Actually it's in C# minor, but hey, you're close enough, give or take a #. I wanted to learn it at university, but my teacher would have none of it (I was told to learn it own my own time) and asked me instead to tackle the Prokofiev Db. The latter is certainly harder, and I guess in hindsight that was fair enough.

You got the full score or the two-piano reduction? You planning on playing this with an orchestra or just learning it for fun?

[/b] I wouldn't call it "learning it for fun". Every piece I pick up is to gain a fuller knowledge of piano and piano playing. So, the concerto is for a good learning experience, and another piece in the repertoire! It isn't that difficult really. Should be fun!

Good piece, not too difficult, try to get hold of the Richter recording of it, best there is!

Thank you for introducing me to this work! It's really good! dolce, that's the recording I'm listening to, by the way.

good, it's the onlyone I know/have, there aren't that much more I fear, and just go on playing Arensky, Moszkovsky, Paderewsky and Chopinsky..
