Hey all- I'm discovering that I really like Vivaldi and have been listening to his music more lately. Did he write solo keyboard music? I know of the Bach transcriptions of the concertos, which are great (the organ trans. are too), but what about solo keyboard stuff?
Thanks, Steve

I'm not an expert, but by "keyboard" you must mean Harpsichord? - as the Piano wasn't invented, and again i'm no expert but I don't think he did compose for any type of keyboard... I'm not even sure if the harpsichord was invented ha ha ha, but it probably was, and if he has written any works for solo keyboard, I have never seen any, the best you can get are transcriptions of his famous works.

Wikipedia tells me some of his compositions have parts for harpsichords. But it doesn't list any solo works. But I keep coming across mention of "Vivaldi Keyboard Sonatas" on google....

Although these are not by Vivaldi exactly, I am in the process of recording an all-Vivaldi cd for Naxos. The 'Four Seasons' is done, which is my own arrangement based on an anonymous solo Ricordi edition; and Naxos commissioned a friend of mine, Andrew Gentile, to transcribe the D Major Lute and C Major Mandolin concerti for solo piano. I will go into the studio with those sometime in November, and the published versions of the latter two will be available at some point--I will share that when it happens.

Just got finished listening to the Vivaldi D Major Lute concerto transcribed and played on a solo guitar, no other intruments. Love it. Is it possible to get a copy of a piano version of this? Gaby Tu

When I know for sure that Naxos will have it available, most probably through their Artaria site, I promise to share with PW readers.
