your toughts on this work???

I like it, i really do, but my teacher doesn't ....

in fact, she didn't like it at all. She founds it irritating... that kind of romanticism..

im sure she is talking about another work... I think it's great, sounds like an "hommage" for bach...

Love it and have played it many times. You're right, it's modeled after Bach's preludes and fugues with a choral inserted between the two movements. Good luck with the stretches if you don't have an 11th.

I believe it has been ranked as one of the top 100 piano pieces of all time by a committee back in the 60s that included the likes of Leonard Bernstein et.al. If you like it, go for it!

Do you know where one can find this list? If it included great musicians as the judges, I would certainly find it very inteesting!

I have not heard the work very much but I believe I liked it.
Isn't it the piece that mixes all the previous themes in the last movement?

I heard it for the first time just a couple of months ago in a concert by Awagadan Pratt. I was utterly enraptured. I DO NOT like schmaltzy romantic music, and would classify much of Lizst as such. This is, IMO a breathtakingly beautiful piece of music. Of course, Pratt is no slouch either so I imagine what I heard was a primo rendition.

I ordered (but haven't yet received) the original organ version. I'm hoping I can tackle it on the organ, whereas those huge chords in the piano transcription seemed horribily initimidating to me, like much of the Bach/Busoni stuff.
